I would like to knwo of what problems frequently occur in supra with high mileage? What things in the engien shoudl i check/ replace. I am already replaceing the turbos, intercooler, oil cooler, intake manifold, plugs, plug wires, boost controller, turbo timer. I also am putting in a new fuel system, pump, lines, injectors, regulator.....etc. Should i upgrade the stock internals, piston, rings, gasket, valves to handle 600-700hp? What about the clutch, can it handle it and if not, what kind shoudl i get? Sorry for allt eh newbie questions. i woudl like to know from experienced people what i should i do. PLease also add anything that i am missing.

p.s. i am changing the oil in the steering wheel.

hey man your motor could be perfectly fine, there are a few guys on stock blocks makin HP in the 800's with 115K miles. Do a leak down and compression test, water pump would be wise to replace just for precautionary measures. but if your leak down test is fine, along with compression test...Leave it...don't go friggin around with rods n pistons unless u have to, these motors can handle high mileage extremely well if taken care of properly. obviously redo the oil filter, possibly fuel filter, changing oil is common sense. n just make sure ur turbos are boosting fine n no leaks in any of the many (hated) vacuum lines. and dude your intake manifold? why are u messing with that? if something is broke then fix it, but honestly what the hell is the matter with that?

Like HotSoup said...If its not broke don't fix it, theres nothing wrong with precautionary measures, like water pump n fuel filter n oil filter n shit like that, but if ur intake mani is fine leave it, if ur turbos are fine leave em, don't waste money on rebuilt turbos as the turbos have incredibly small intake shafts n rebuilding the stockers arent really worth it. GO SINGLE!!! lol

Hope i could somewhat help

yeah i think i am going for s single turbo....what is the recommened psi or horse power level that a supr acan safely produce on stock internals. I think i can controll that, for i am getting the aem ecu that can handle all knocking....

Stock internals can handle into the 900's...but for how long is the question...to be on the safe side i would go with somewhere around 550 on pump gas, n the methanol kit is GREAT! concerning knocking, the supras have knock sensors soo u dont have to worry about that too much...n the recommended for the PSI on stock internals id go with 16-17 pnds on pump gas n on the street.

is it hard to do? I think i am going to replace them but if it is too hard and not worthwhile, i migh thave someone do it. what do you think labor whoudl be on that? If i read that correctly, does that mean i need new valves every 20-30k miles or every 120-130k miles?

Valve stem seals? I think they tend to go at around 120k.

It's not hard with the right tools (this is a must). There is a good article on mkiv.com, and a good thread on here describing how to do it. There're a few threads on the selection of tools that are out there, too. Just be careful, patient and thorough. If you're going to check valve clearance, which you probably ought to do, there're another few tools that could make the job easier for you though they are by no means necessary.

I did it with the motor on a (flimsy) stand, which i think actually made it harder-- on the first few cyls I had a hell of a time busting the keepers off cause the motor would move and vibrate and stuff.

If you got someone to do it, I'd expect them to charge you $600 labor? Just a guess

Also change your vacuum lines, as they eventually grow brittle at higher mileage from all the heat soak.

And oil in the steering wheel, maybe you should tell me how to change that. seeing as I was unaware that we had to change oil in our steering wheel. Maybe a typo?

600 for labor......sounds a hell of a lot better than me messing ti up....put then again, having experience is not bad. what are some consequences of a bad install? I am assumign that someone with car knowledge, common sense, reading ability, caution and the right tools can do this install?

Are these vacuum lines special or can i just find a roll of this stuff and re-tube it?

You could buy a hose-techniques kit from MVP for about 120 I think, or you can just buy various sized replacement tubing from your local Advanced or Autozone.
