Auto transmission, Non Turbo 1990 Supra wont start. I moved the shifter just slightly while turning the key, and it started. Had success once before by starting it in neutral, but it doesnt work every time. I heard there is a sensor that could be bad on the shifter, is that my problem? What part do I need to replace? The entire console or just a certain part? Is there a wiring harness that may be loose somewhere that I could check? Im no mechanic, so please provide as much detail as possible if you can.*

Once the car starts it runs perfect.

Thank you for taking the time to read and reply to help me out,

Billy

Hi, I had this problem on my 86.5 non turbo years ago. I replaced the "Neutral Safety Switch", it is located under the car on top passenger side of the transmission near starter. That fixed the problem 100%.
