hey guys, just a quick question about the 1jz, a friend of mine has a chaser, it came with a single turbo and standalone, now, we are in the process of swapping turbos and doing the essentials so it can handle 500whp+.

towards the end of last season when the car is idling, sometimes you whould hear a knock, it wouldnt get louder with the rpms are raised, and it was just something that happened once and awhile, is this something we should be worried about? what kinda checks should we be doing before we get this thing back on the road?

Check to make sure the crank pulley bolt is nice and tight, and that the pulley isn't wobbling around.

A knock could be de to anything, very strange that at idle the knock is not consistant with your rpm. Can you be more descriptive with the knocking sound?

check cam clearance might be time for shims. it will sound like a knock from in the car, but a tick from outside the car.

ok well, when the hood is open, and the car is idling, you can hear a "knock" like someone knocks on a door, same sound, comming from what sounds like the bottom end of the motor, and it happens so sparaticly its weird, its not constant. mjrsplat- its not a tick, but an actual knock.

Cant take a vid as of yet, the vehicle is still being put back together, gonna need a couple more weeks alteast before its running, i just want to get some input, because if its soemthing i should check before we start it again, while its apart it would be easier.
