Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum. I looked around a little for information regarding my exact predicament but couldn't find it. I have an '89 MKIII with a 7MGE (non-turbo). Cylinder #2 is dead and the oil turned black from exhaust soot. Also, the engine has normal oil pressure. Any ideas of what the problem might be? Thank you in advance.

The problem is the GE.

Black oil and dead cylinder. Do a compression check on all cylinders. Any low ones add a cap full of oil and test again. Sounds like you may have broken a ring.

Look in the mirror pal, 99% of the problems with 7m's are the owners.
