One of our family members needed to get out of their 2012 BMW 650i, so I recommended the 2014 SRT8 and assisted with the purchase. I will have to say this thing is very impressive. Ride is very nice, lots of tech and cool gauges, and just overall fit and finish is amazing for a $70k SUV. Haven't heard much about the new 2014's on here. They redesigned some things on the outside and upgraded the tech and most importantly the 8 speed transmission. I drove the 2013 and 2014 back to back. There's just better power everywhere in the 2014's, it's the best improvement on the vehicle. It's a beast, and handles ridiculous for a heavy SUV, and the brakes are very good. I'm serious when I'm confident you could take this right to the track and kick some tail. It handles that well. We looked at this and the new X50i, but man for nearly $90k (we picked up the SRT8 for $68k), you had to check box all the options for a similarly spec'd SRT8.

Some of the standard features on the SRT8 are pretty amazing, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, a heated steering wheel, a proximity key, a power liftgate, sonar and camera rear parking aids, leather and suede upholstery, adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning system, are some of the standard features. We got the upgraded wheels, sound system, and moon roof. Overall this SUV is one of the best out there, and if you're in the market for a sport SUV - I don't think there's a better option out there for the price. If you want to feel like a badass, get the SRT8. :) Sorry for the terrible photos...I'll get better ones soon.

It's all relative I guess, but if you want a SUV that performs this well, you're looking at the X5M, Cayenne Turbo, ML63, RR Supercharged - all of which are direct competitors and $100k+

Father-in-Law slipped 2 discs in his lower back, couldn't get in and out of the 650i. Needed a more upright vehicle with easy access seats. Didn't want to give up the performance he had in the 650i.

Some friends over at Stage6 Motorsports have slapped turbos on a few of these and are running 8s in full street trim. They're the same guys that built Joe's (the original) Ford GTTT back in like 2006/2007.

That looks... scary. I can't honestly say I've ever launched a higher-powered RWD car at the strip (I have done 600+ WHP in a FWD though, ugh), so I don't know what it's like to be doing a wheelie like that, but I imagine that whatever scariness ensues must be twice as crazy in an SUV. My own father has a WK Grand Cherokee (like the one pictured, but a lowly V6 Laredo) and I can't imagine doing wheelies in that thing

I hear you, but here was the toughest part, he doesn't buy used cars. Period.
And besides the x5m would have been the old body version anyways.

I LOVE this things!, they are the vehicle that can do it ALL!, they finally updated the towing capacity on the new ones and you can take your boat to the ramp, or drive in the snow, let alone beat many sports cars out there light to light. I don't understand how anyone thinks this is overpriced, a fully loaded explorer these days is well north of $50k let alone the euro counterparts, paying an extra $15-20k to have this instead IMO is well worth it. If I had to have 1 vehicle to do it all, this would be the one for sure, on and the inside doesn't exactly feel, or look like a "jeep"

Not to mention I don't think people realize how much of a jump in quality the Grand Cherokee made when it went from WK to WK2. Massive difference.

My boys at Stage6 (Dwight) has these going 8's easy. They have been on the track several times with UGR cars and the UGR boys refuse to line up. I guess I would too if I though my $250k lambo would lose to a Jeep lol

Those SRT Jeeps are pretty amazing actually. I attended an SRT driving school a few years back, and drove all of the SRT models. On the drag strip, the Jeep was the fastest of all SRT8's, because it would just smoke the others out of the hole. On the auto cross, we used SRT4's and ran the course. Once we were done, they gave us Jeeps, and unbelievably, they were at least a second faster through the course than the smaller SRT4's. On the Road Race courses, they put the professional drivers out there for a session in Vipers and Jeeps. The Vipers would pull away on the straights, but sure enough the Jeeps would catch them through the corners. Definitely made a believer out of me that day. 470Hp with AWD.

Ehhh, something ain't adding up there. A properly driven Viper will be faster everywhere on a racecourse.

I leased the 2014 jeep limited just for a dd and the thing is awesome. I looked at the srt and it looked amazing I just couldn't justify an SUV like that as a DD. But seems like a few people are really under estimating it. Definitely worth it if you can swing it. Jeep really stepped their game up with the 14's.

2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk: HELLCAT, HELLCAT, HELLCAT
As much as 707 horsepower in a Grand Cherokee? Hell yes!

Image

What It Is
Meant to be to street performance what Trailhawk is to rock-bashing off-road ability. There will be an optional Hellcat engine, and well, info on that part ought to be clear by now.

Why It Matters
Dodge now claims exclusive rights to the SRT badge, but the Jeep Grand Cherokee is currently the bestselling vehicle to wear it. FCA isn’t about to shut down its hot-rod-Jeep money mint, so the hi-po Grand Cherokee will now be known as the Trackhawk.

Platform
The Grand Cherokee shares its skeletal makeup with the Mercedes-Benz M-class, making it one of the few good things to come out of the disastrous DaimlerChrysler tie-up.

Powertrain
It should seem obvious that the supercharged Hellcat V-8 would eventually find its way into a few more engine bays. Paired with four-wheel drive, the 6.2-liter’s 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque could help the Grand Cherokee breach 60 mph in less than four seconds. Base 475-hp Trackhawk models will come with the naturally aspirated 6.4-liter V-8 that is used in today’s Grand Cherokee SRT.

Competition
BMW X5 M; Land Rover’s new highest-performance model, the Range Rover Sport SVR; Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG; Porsche Cayenne Turbo S.

What Might Go Wrong
We hear that Jeep is struggling to blast-proof the Grand Cherokee’s driveline against Hellcat torque bombs. There are two obvious work-arounds: Engineers could electronically limit torque in lower gears or, less likely, just skip four-wheel drive.

Estimated Arrival and Price
Look for the first $65,000 Grand Cherokee Trackhawks at Costcos, gas stations, drag strips, and meetings of the South Jersey mafia starting in mid-2016.
