2JZSwap.com / Tech2Motorsports shifter: A review

Well I sent the R154 shifter away to get modified to fit the MKIV chassis, I was aware they were not the cheapest in town, but was expecting a really good job that would save me a bit of time in working the distances out etc. So I sent the shifter across the world to them here are some of the outcomes:

1. I was told it was a 2-3 day turnaround, turned into 2 weeks.
2. The shifter flange is warped from the heat of the welding, about 2mm off flat now. Hopefully the gasket still holds.
3. The shifter was about 1 inch too short (yes I told them the box and chassis and even sent pics).
4. The link that joins the shifter to the gear selector was bent in the complete wrong direction, so it hit the bottom of the plate and because of this you cant even get it on with the gasket in place.
5. Communication was extremely difficult and slow.

Generally speaking it was a terrible and very expensive transaction. They did offer to repair the work, but freighting the part on the other side of the world at my cost again and for another month did not appeal since the car is about ready to drive. The quality of the welding was good, which is the only plus side, even though it doesnt matter since it all has to be modified again.

Good to know. I've thought about having them do mine but with the price they charge I could take it to a local fab shop and have them do it for 1/2 that. Are they still charging $250?

Yup 250 plus shipping both ways... so closer to 325 all done.

The good thing is taking it to a local shop is you get to tweek it to you precise needs. It has to be mm perfect really, and these guys are not inch perfect.

I had tech 2 do my engine harness. After waiting a month longer than they promised and after I paid for shipping both ways I got it back with stuck relays and completely fucked up. The car wouldn't rev past 3k rpms before violently backfiring. They swore it was perfect but were willing to let me send it back on my dollar to have it looked at and then sent back on my dollar, the whole time claiming there was nothing wrong with it. WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH. TELL YOUR FRIENDS OR ANYONE CONSIDERING THEM TO THINK AGAIN. I had Shawn Palmquist at myjzswap.com repair their work and document their screw ups. Even after showing them what was wrong they denied they did anything wrong and would not refund any of my money.

wow, i should have done my research first, i let them build my engine while I was deployed in Afghanistan, when I got the engine it had a JMG headgasket rather than a HKS 2mm , like I ask for, I figured I was screwed because shipping the engine back will cost me, Carlos the owner swore up and down this gasket will hold 1000rwhp...maybe we should post a thread just on tech2motorsport to see what kind of work the do. What the H E L L is a JMG headgasket
