I know there has been many th400 swaps in supras. Has anyone installed a 4le 60 or a 4le80 in a supra. They have the same bolt pattern at a th400 but they have overdrives. They are also a little longer.
Do some searching. 4L60 means you'll need to have a good stock on hand, and a lot of tranny swapping time :]
the 4L80 has been at home in the Supra for years now.
The real question is, if somone is willing to do the new 6L80 swap :]
I think that the 6L80 is a six speed auto, my wifes escalade has one. My Hummer has a 4le80 in it and the escalade trans is way better on the hwy. But that thing is huge.
I'm sure the 6L80E is a great daily driver transmission, but its physical dimensions are smaller than the 4L80E. That plus two extra gears in the case does not inspire confidence as racing transmission.
The 4L80E is proven to hold big horsepower (though not TH400 big), but upgrading it is extremely expensive. It also requires considerable massaging of the transmission tunnel in the Supra. There's a guy in the Builds and Projects section that posted step-by-step pics of the install.
