Last year we did some secret testing on the 6466 on Reid's car. Interestingly the 6466 came out the clear winner on a 100% bone stock 2J motor.

In this case here, you can see that the backpressure is the biggest reason for the lack of performance spread b/t the 64 and 67. The boost doesn't take a hit, so the lack isn't the compressor wheel here, is the backpressure. Higher compression motors seem to handle backpressure a bit better.

I don't know much about this stuff but it sounds like you're saying the 67 is being held back... any guesses if going to a bigger exhaust housing would open up the 67 a fair amount? Or what it would do to the 64?
I was planning to pick up a 6766 in journal bearing and probably still am, looking at the slightly larger divided housing but haven't finalized my decision.

I also wonder how these turbos compare at a more common boost pressure like 18-20 psi and 26-28 psi for us mere mortals :).

I'm going to run a 6766 soon, without the QSV, so I've yet to figure out what rear I want, though it will be smaller then most. I'll make up for it with Tomei cams, valve springs, a 4 inch midpipe/downpipe, and I'm going to run over 20 psi on pump gas. In fact, if I don't see any knock, I hope to run 25 psi on 93 octane. True story. If anything goes wrong, which I doubt, I'll build the bottom end.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say yes! The .81 is the standard housing that comes with the turbos, meaning that's what Precision recommends. Also, I remember Larry saying the .81 was the best for all max power too.

The 6466 is a torque monster!

I want all the spool. Would I loose top end? It’s a stock piston bc rod motor. Kelford 264/272 vvti cams. Unported head. E85

The motor is coming apart to put the rods in so now would be the time to swap housings

As already mentioned, the .81 is the ideal housing for the 6466. If you're looking for a top end turbo, you need a dinosaur turbo like a T88 or larger. A 6466 is not necessarily a top end turbo, it's best in the mid-range.

If the motor is coming apart to put rods in, I would also put forged pistons in. That's a lot of work for rods.
