I noticed that it is difficult to get out of 6th gear at times. The transmission was recently rebuilt and was relatively new to begin with. The transmission shifts fine into and out of every gear except for getting out of 6th. I don't drag race or do any sort of abusive shifting. Car is stock with a ACT HD clutch. Any ideas?

you should be asking whoever rebuilt it
Nice answer. Next time, just don't post n00b...

My first inclination would be 6th gear synchro. Is it ever hard to get into 6th, or just out? Either way, that's about the only thing that I can think of that will single out a gear transition.

Then again, I'm an OBD/electronics guy, not a trans specialist. :) Let us know what you find.

Well the first thing I would do in your situation is check the transmission fluid level. If the level becomes low, the area where the shift fork sits on the sychronizer will become inadequately lubricated. The problem would probably happen in 6th gear first because of its location in the transmission. Eventually the fork could get "welded" and the car wont move unless the clutch is pushed in because the transmission will be locked up since the gears cannot turn.

That is just my first idea. Other causes could be an improper clutch adjustment, although that is probably more likely to become obvious in lower gears first, since there is less momentum in play. 6th gear is usually easy to pull out of even if the clutch is not even pressed at all.

So basically, I would suggest checking the fluid level, and let us know what you find. The fluid should be just about coming out of the fill hole.

I haven't had a chance to troubleshoot it yet but it is just getting out of gear that is a problem. I was thinking that it could be some sort of detent on the synchro that stops it from popping out of gear.

I am familiar with Honda transaxles and they have a 'synchro spring' which is basically a spring clip much like one on the end of a splined axle. I know that this design is Honda specific but I am thinking that the Getrag equivalent part may have something wrong with it. Perhaps there is a gouge in the detent mechanism or something.
