I am looking at a few mk3s today and was going to run a compression test on them. What would some descent psi's be? What should I say hell no to? one has 140k and the other has 174k. I know both will be in sub par shape compared to a new one but I'm making sure it will get me around while I build another motor for it. Thanks!

The TSRM lists 128-142 as acceptable with less than 14 psi difference between the highest and lowest numbers. You can also look at the plugs for another indicator of how healthy the motor is. I'd also see how crudded up the radiator is by taking that cap off while it's cold. Of course there are a lot of other things I'm sure you'll check. Good luck.

Should this be in tech?
