Ok guys I really need some help. My crank broke. I bought another crank from a machine shop and I went to install it today. the original crank does not have counter weights on cylinders 2 and 5. The new crankshaft does have counter weights on cylinders 2 and 5. Everything else is exactly the same. The crankshaft counter weight on cylinder 2 hits the block ever so slightly where the oil pump mounts. Has anyone run into this? I was thinking of just grinding the block a bit. Any input will help. I have pics but I cannot poset them. I think because i am new to the forums...

hmm what year of 7mgte did the broken one come out of? Because the earlier cranks in the 7mgtes had differant counter weights on them. Look on the new and old cranks and see what it stamped on them. I bet one is "6m" crank and the other is a 7m crank. Don't freak out if it says 6m, thats what came in all the earlier 7mgte motors. Mine has a 6m in it.

I can't remember the big differences between the two, but i know it has something to do with the counter weights.

U had a 6m crank orginally found in the 86.5 87 88 cars the crank you got is a 7m crank with the extra counter weights thought that crank doesnt really look that good from the pics need some better pics. Interesting to see that it is hitting the block since its for the 89+ 7m engines. U need to exhange that crank for one that has a casting on it that says 6m

I've interchanged the two cranks before without any clearance issues. Did you install all the bearings and thrust washers correctly before setting the crank in?

Wow thats great information. Thanks guys. I checked and double checked all the clearences. ALl good. Strange my Supra is a 91. Someone befor me must have installed an older motor. After consulting my machine shop and grinding the block just a bit where the oil pump mounts the crank fits fine. Thanks again.
