Hey guys,
Here goes my supra forum virginity!! I have always been a supra fan and want to build a motor over the summer (take it somewhere to be built) but I would like to know what everyone prefers. I would like to have 900hp MAX and maybe a daily of about 500-600. I'm totally new to this whole turbo scene, and I'm very interested in it!! I would like to run the gt47-88. Also, I know that with performance comes $$$, so if someone could kinda give me a ballpark price for the motor?? that would be great! I'm currently in college, so i only work over the summer and make roughly 10k a summer. Thanks guys!!

I can't tell if you are trolling or not, so I'll be polite. If you are new to turbocharging you should get a book or two and do some reading. Learning to read a compressor map would be good too. The 47-88 is good to about 1300whp, way more than you need, something in the 72-74mm range will be more suitable. Don't forget about supporting mods (ie. injectors, fuel pumps, EMS, clutch or built auto etc).

why do you want 900hp.. wank factor or are you wanting to ba able to run a certain time down the strip??

personally the first thing you need to look at is purpose/use for the car, handeling, then power train.

thats just me

carms: I would like to just build a car, and keep it til im old balls. Also it would be fun to run down the track. Idk why 900hp...kinda figure it would never get old.

isifmobile: thanks, I'm going to purchase a book soon. I have no idea what I would be getting into on this one, but hopefully I will be able to build my dream car. I figured with a bigger turbo I could run lower boost? As to having a smaller turbo running higher boost. But I'm not even sure if that would work. I'm going to do a whole bunch of research on here and see what I come up with

Do you have a Supra yet or are you just going to try and find a motor? If you only make 10k a year I'd say don't even think about it and be more responsible with your money as it's probably going to take you 3 years to just build the motor for that kind of power. Save, then once you're done with school and have a career you can think about modding a supra. But on a serious note.. I wouldn't go any bigger than a 76mm turbo. Anything bigger and you'll be sacrificing streetability and midrange power, 500-600hp will be laggy and boring on a 3.0L with a 47-88.. depending on what fuel you're running you'll probably be running around on wastegate pressure all of the time. Seems kind of pointless to me.

do you have a supra? or a 2jz car atleast? i deff wouldnt go from "new to turbos" straight to an 88mm setup. i would keep the stock block and throw on a 72-74 and have fun. it will be more than enough for a street car. like stated earlier, 10k a summer isnt going to get you very far in this game.

No I don't have a supra yet. I was hoping to build it one piece at a time. I thought 10k could get the engine built to handle a big turbo. Then next summer buy the shell and put it together. Of course there is everything in between that must be considered, which im sure will cost even more lol I think I'm gonna take riceater's advice and get my Engineering degree. I will be doing a bunch of research in the meantime, thanks for the input!
