Man have I got a big problem or what !. I took my car to have it smogged and was told that I need a new computer along with a o2 censer And a complete vacuum reroute. Now my question is this . Is there any way that I could go to the wrecking yard and get a used computer or should I go ahead and buy a new one . Seeing how I'm kinda short on cash and that fact that they're hella expencive would it be to my advantage to just have mine rebuilt please let me know what you think. Get at me......

If you car is a 90 turbo (like in your profile) then you want a computer from a 90, 91, or 92 turbo. You can also get one from an 89 turbo, but make sure it has GREY plugs, some of the earlier ones had yellow plugs.

Your best bet for a cheap O2 sensor would be buying the universal adaptor, so you can get a generic three wire O2 from almost every parts store. PM me if you need to know where you can buy the threaded adaptor.

Did they tell you exactly why you failed the smog? A new computer seems a little much to me.

Pretty sure he's trying to shaft you. The first smog place I went to, they said they needed to clean my engine first for $150 before they can smog me. I was like ok, I'll think about it and then got it smogged at another place.

they can try but they'll never get me to pay that amount of money for something I dont think I need . But I'll go to the wrecking yard and get one just in case. I'll tell him it's a rebuild and see what he says.....

all i can say is IF YOUR COMP. is BAD YOUR CAR WOULD NEVER GOT TO THE MECH. FOR A SMOG TEST!!!!
the problem is probably the O2 is bad if you getting bad smog reading.
there is no need to get a vacuum reroute or a new comp. if the runs.
just go and get some vacuum lines at auto store and reroute them yourself.

Yo fellow supraholics. Let me let you guys and gals in on something . I went to the mechanic and told him for a comp to go bad my car would'nt have never made to your shop also you would'nt have gotten the readings that you have. Well anyway to make a long story short. He's trying to tell me I need a complete engine rebuild at his discounted price of only 3675.00. Would someone just shoot me I guess you'd have to be pretty dumb to fall into that trap. But now I see how they tricked my mother. Anywho. I'll take it to another shop someone who deals with hi pro toys.I'll keep you all posted. PEACE.......
