Are there any advantages running 93 pump gas in my "bpu" na supra... Haha.
All i have is a short ram, header, exhaust, magnecor wires and plusestar plugs. Ive noticed my idle is smoother and overall the car is quieter but performance wise are there advantages or am i wasting my money?

Maybe if you have a non-California spec car, the 93 octane might benefit. For a California spec car, no real measurable difference I can see from 91 and 93.

I drive my NA about 3000 miles a year. If I average 15 mpg, I'll use 200 gallons for the entire year. 93 octane is only 15 cents more a gallon than 91 here in Nashville, so it only costs me $30 extra a year to use the best gas available.

I figure my car is worth the extra $30 spent per year.

I never use anything less then 93It is what the car is meant to have

our toyota manual states that the supras arent really made to run on anything below 91 and even so states that if there isnt anything higher then 91 avail. that 91 is treated as running 87oct. on normal car... so really the car was designed to run on 95 ish octane

91=87, 93=89, 95=91

i to notice smoother engine idle, as well as throttle response

if ur not running on boost or super high compression risking preigntion...there is no real reason to need higher octane fuel

lots of people will say "you get better milage on higher octane" or "higher octane gets you more power"...but its all theories and rumors, ive never seen any true evidence that the octane changes either of those

if you want to put it in just for piece of mind, theres nothing wrong with that

I only had one car in my lifetime that made more power between 91 and 93: Nissan 350Z. I would on average gain 7rwhp (and a smoother engine) using a mixture of race gas to up the octane ~93 from 91.

Thanks guys for the input i only ask because 93 pump octane here in reno i can only get vp racing and its 5.39 a gallon unlike 91 at chevron/shell is 3.10 right now. I wasnt sure if it was having a placebo effect on me or what but my supra is a weekend car so i guess ill stick with the 93.

here in Australia we use 98 octane on our cars, and there is a BIG difference between 91 and 98 octane in my opinion. I can actually feel the power and response difference of the 98 octane, that and it keeps your engine in better condition, and remember supras were BUILT to use 98 octane fuel in japan.

I put 100 octane in my NA supra before, pulled a bit harder and the exhaust note was a bit more throaty. It was a lot of fun knowing I had race gas... especially when hitting about 140ish =)

Actually, if you run too high an octane it'll run worse, ie. less hp. Less chance of knock and detonation means less power. Leaner will make more horsepower and run harder. Its all in your head, unless you bumped timing and actually took advantage of the extra octane. Why you think a race gas tune involves either running more timing or more boost......or both. Higher octane without either then it'll make less power :/
