hello.
we build now my supra for fast highway runs. i would like to diskus the aerodynamic of a supra. could someone tell me what to do to get stable on high speed without a big wing??? i found 3 rear difusors, but dont know which would the best. top secret, modilsta (the same???) and do luck. maby someone could say something about the differences. what about the rear bumpers with diffusor??? and where can i get a diffusor for the front ???
thanks

I would completely cover the whole underside of the Supra for less drag
I would say the TS rear diffusor is better as far as dowforce goes. The only fron diffuser for the supra that I know of off hand is the Ab-Flug one. As for the wing, you will need some kind of wing if you are talking about 200+ miles, at least I would just as a precaution. Doen't have to be big or anything. There are different kinds that are only even 2" high. Or the little lip that some people put on there as well just to raise it a bit.
In one test, a modified Supra ran over 190MPH with the stock wing and no additional ground effect or diffusers......can't be all that bad...
There's a video on the internet called Getaway Stockholm where a stock bodied Supra and a Ford Escort I think it was that race through the streets of Stockholm Sweden. Near then end they clock the Supra at around 197mph. Google Video it, it's and awesome video.
I dont know if there is actually any wind tunnel research done on these products. You may be better off makeing your own pieces if you plan on driving 200mph.
daniel is correct, many companies are more interested in quickly getting the product to the market than they are on spending lots of money in R&D and renting a wind tunnel.

as suprageezer mentioned, the supra in getaway in stockholm does just shy of 200mph with no body modifications.

godsp33d's rear diffuser will help with keeping the rear end planted at high speed, due to the fact that the air moving over the top of the car is moving faster, and therefore has a lower static pressure than the air moving underneath the car, resulting in lift. the faster you go, the more lift is generated. the diffuser helps by smoothing together the airflow from the top of the car, and the airflow underneath the car, when the air below hits the diffuser it is sped up and instead of lift, generates downforce. plus the diffuser looks badass
btw godsp33d, what diffuser is that? and what exhaust are you running? did you have any clearance issues with the install?
I'd be really surprised if the MKIV didn't have a bit of wind tunnel testing...

actually they tunneled the car for YEARS before producing it :) ... I had an article where it stated that the supra was one of the most aerodynamic vehicles those years .. also best brakes and it could also hold a shitload of g-force in turns !!!
the reference to lack of wind tunnel testing is regarding the aftermarket parts. I question that too

its the TOP SECRET rear diffuser directly from japan in which i waited 6-7 months for! So if your on a time frame you better order in advance!! Also, Top Secret has proven that their rear diffusers do actually work, i'm not too sure about other designs. Ive heard that some people have some fitment issues with others. Top Secret has designed this rear diffuser to be an actual function to the car as well as looking bad ass! There are actually numerous threads on the diffusers.

Im current running the HKS Titanium w/slight modification to the diffuser, nothing someone cant do on their own.

Ahhh yes.... Fastest stopping production car until the C6 Vette came out.
Also .98 lateral G on stock suspension. Throw on some coils, sway\strut bars and wider tires and you're easily around 1.1-1.3g
I've always had the impression that the mkiv's aerodynamics were unusually good from the factory.
Mario Andretti's comments in this R&T article of a lightly modified HKS Supra were positive: "This car is stable. Absolutely stable."

I might also search for info on the Jun car that did 200+.
ok! in getaway in stockholm 300kmh....we tested on my supra (only the trd replika wing was on it) with 334 kmh with gps!!! so and here was the problem, the wing woks fine but at this speed it produces to much downforce! for that, i wanted to test the car without wing and a lot of diffusors!!!

here in germany i found a articel:

german supra with big wing, euro front lip and euro hood 0,33 cw !!! without that parts 0,30 cw!!!! (i hope you kno what is the cw - testen in wind tunnel)

so where can i get the top secret diff or the replica and where can i get the abflog front diff?!?!?!

thanks
you should look jun lemon supra it's fine for high speed conditions
Does that diffuser clear speed bumps or flatbeds???
U have to disconnect the center piece I belive to get it on a flatbed
