Hi Guys,
After my first trip to the drags a couple months ago the bug has now bitten hard and i (like everyone) want to hit the 10sec pass.
A run down of my first attempt. I was on 19s all round with 315 low profile rear tyres (this is my street set-up). I was very soft off the line every run so i didnt pop the diff (best 60ft was 2.4) and my fastest run was a granny spec [email protected]
The reason i didnt launch hard is due to the drag way being a 3 hour drive from home. last time i was there with a mate he popped his diff and it was a $500 tow truck ride home that also took 5 hours travel time!
Other problems on the night was my boost controller would turn off so it would revert to spring pressure mid track and then slowly boost up again. when this happened i could feel the front drop as well as speed. i also forgot to lift my rear slightly and put the hks coilovers on the softest setting (another rookie mistake)
i will be returning in a couple months and have a possible drop off point close by if something goes wrong. this means im now eager to push it a lot harder.
A coupe weeks ago i purchased a set of FD rx7 16s that i will wrap in MT street for the rear. will my 19x10 front wheel be ok to keep or should i look for another set up front? With such a long drive and very little space i dont have the ability to bring a lot of additional equipment. Also what size MT is recommended for the rx7 16's?
I will sort out the little grimlins regarding the boost controller.
My next issue is my set-up. I run a gt42r (71mm) on a completely stock motor. 2 boost settings are about 18 and 22 psi with power output around 380rwkws and 420rwkws respectively (this is on a dyno dynamics too). I use the lower setting for 1st and 2nd and then the higher setting for 3rd onwards.
Next setup problem is my diff. The car is a v160 6 speed but has the auto TT torsen diff. gearing makes the car feel like my old motor bike and i need to use 5th across the line at 400m. Will this diff set-up prevent me from getting across in a high 10 second pass? I would like to upgrade to the larger b series diff at a later stage.
Obviously i realise this is not going to happen at my second trip up as i need practice but i would to still aim for this target before the end of this year without changing too much of my current set-up.
any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
