I have replaced the plastic piece that is supposed to push the door switch closed so the warning up in the dash clears, but for whatever reason I can't get it to clear and the door chimes constantly with the door shut. I've tried to loosen up the door latch and slide it and it doesn't seem to work and I am frustrated with it. Maybe someone else who has had this same problem can share a solution.

Did you replace the piece that moves or the plunger on the door that pushes it in?

If the moving piece on the frame of the car is still intact, you can just take a small screwdriver or your gf's long fingernail or something and shove small pieces of grocery bag plastic to keep it in there. Hopefully, you can tell on your own if your door is open. I have had mine like this for years. Every idk 2 or 3 years or so I have to replace it but it is no big deal.

here is how i fixed the problem, if the piece of plastic that slides in and out from the frame still works, then look on the door you will see a piece of plastic . it looks like a block, just expoxy over the front edge of the part of the piece about 1/16 of an inch or until and sliding piece goes far enough into the frame to close the switch, then paint over the fix, very easy to do

Do you have a picture? I noticed the block, but judging from the location of the plastic sensor on the body that tells the car the door is closed, I figured that was for something else. I thought the plastic tab goes into the door. What is the block for?

I fixed it by putting a washer behind the adjustment plate to get it aligned to the plastic piece on the door that pushes the switch piece in which in turn cancels the door open chime.

when the door is closed, that block hits the slider and pushes the slider into the switch and closes the switchand to make sure yr switch is working, turn on interior lights, then push the slider into the switch, if the lights go off it is working , if the interior lights stay on, you have a different problem.
when i had this problem , i took a piece of electrical tape ( very thin) and put it on the leading edge of the block, closed the door , the lights and door chim went off
now i knew how much material i had to add to the leading edge of the block, so i added a thin coat of expoy( i guess any material that bonds to plastic will work) to the leading edge of the block, let dry, closed door and this fixed the problem, painted to match car color, easy fix

I read that a piece was added to the front of the block. Can't the block just be loosened, adjusted and re-tightended? If so, I would rather do this. I hadn't read anything about this option yet. I figured no one wanted to go to the trouble, but if this is a possibility, though more time consuming, I would prefer to do it that way.

in looking at the plastic block on the door, there is a screw under the block on the door, i tried to loosen it, but could not, so i just added material to the block and this was easier, it looks as if you can loosen the screw on the block and then it rotates forward. moving the block closer to the slidding rod, try going to a body shop and see what they recommend

Ah, I have the same problem with my driver side door. I always get people telling me that my door is open, when It's really not..The warning light is constantly on and I can never enjoy a quite ride home on the freeway without hearing the annoying sound of air creeping through my window (even when the window is rolled up all the way). Oh, not to mention a fair amount of water getting inside the car during rain or a car wash. :(
