Anyone tried the Sumitomo HTR Z II Size:285/35-18 @$181 tires?

Has anyone tried the Sumitomo HTR II's? The 285/35/18s are only $181 at tirerack.com I currently have the Kuhmo supras....265/35/18 because I was trying to save on money(only $150). The kuhmos are good for the money that you pay but I need somthing better. They are spinning when the 2nd turbo kicks on at 17lbs of boost on BPU setup. I have racing hart C5 18x9 and 18x10 with an eibach drop and I want to know what I can fit in the rear. Should I go 275/40/18, 285/40/18, or 285/35/18. I know that the higher the sidewall the more they hook but will the 285/40/18 fit in without rubbing with an eibach drop. I have heard that the bridgestone potenza's hook well. Are the Sumitomo's worth getting if you are pinching pennies? Any suggestions anyone? Thanks

I've had the Sumos on my car for about 6 months. They are much harder than the Bridgestone S02's I had before. They last longer as a street tire, but they are harder and give you less traction. I have no complaints about these tires. They are fine for street driving. I am waiting for the new 285 Nittos coming out in January. They are supposed to hook up and run ok in the rain and around corners (although probably not as good as the Bridgstones). I bought the Sumos for the price. The s02's were twice as expensive and, at the time, money was tight.

here's the word I give to everyone. Try the Summitumo HTR 40 Z. I put a set of them on from the Kumhos that were on and they have been the best tire i have ever owned. At 125 tire for 275-40-17 they are a steal. I put out about 470 rwhp @ 1.1 bar with a t-78 with a hp jump from 4-5000 rpm that's phenominal and they handle it with no fuss. Hook, hook, hook. They have the same hardness rating of 150 as the Nitto drag radials and come with a tread pattern that is great in the rain. They're the only tire I'm going with from now on. Hope this helps.

I absolutely love my Sumi's. Cheap, grip well, and good handeling. Last forever too, even with the insane abuse i do to my car and the tires.

I was talking about the sumi HTR z II 285/35/18. Sumi only makes the following sizes in the Z IIs (prices from tire rack)

255/45WR18 $161

265/35WR18 $159

285/35ZR18 $184

255/35WR20 $225

I LOVE MY Sumitomo's! For the price, you can't beat them! I just got a brand new set when I went 18" and was surprised at the amount of traction I got out of these. They are just as sticky as my AVS Sports I had on.

chnco,
Are you talking about the Sumitomo HTR or HTR II. They have different ratings and TireRack doesn't carry the HTR in many sizes.

Well, I had that size on my aftermarket rims on my Z. They were ok for me. I have some Nitto NT555 and new rims Tuesday and only went out one time on them. .:D But I like them so far

I've got the sumitumos...with the amount of driving I do price was definitely a factor and as far as I'm concerned they are the best bang for the buck...big improvement over my toyo proxe fz4's (275/35r18's). I'm on the 285/35r18's now and they fit fine on lowered supras, I was thinking of going bigger but don't need it yet. Def a good street tire.

Have you tried the TOYO T1S? I have them and really like them. I have stock wheels and they only go to 265-40-17  I really wanted 275's I have 245's up front. they were 210 and 205 respectivly mounted and balanced. Not much more than the ones you are looking at.

I found a place that have the HTR Z, not the HTR Z II in 275/40/17. They are $147 a piece. I just got mine mounted today.

No, I have 285/35/18 HTRZ II and no wheel hop. But I would say when I had the Michelin MXX3 255/40/17 my car would insanely wheel hop !

Even a 275/35R18 is too big for a 9 inch wide wheel so no you can't use a 285 on 9 inch. Try to get BFG KDs or SO3s they are $$$ but will give better traction in 275s or 265s than a cheaper 285 tire.
