Anyone done the horsepower freaks mod? I am planning to do this mod. Can someone tell me if it safe to do this mod and is there a substantial performance gain with this mod?

I've had it since last summer and I love it. The midrange is 100% better with this mod.

Myself and several others have had this mod for a long time (some for more than a year or two) will no negative effects. I recommend it.

How much better is the performance at low RPM (2000-4000)? And is it more powerfull than a BPU with a HKS-EZ boost controller? I do not have a boost controller on my car yet, Im thinking of trying this mod what can I expect?
MY MODS
94-TT Silver 6 speed
HKS 'Priest' exhaust
HKS down pipe
HKS intake
Sard R2D2 blow off valve
Greddy Turbo Timer
17" Racing Hart Wheels
What exactly is the HPF mod ?

CHECK THE WEBSITE- www.horsepowerfreaks.com and click on the HPF MOD FOR SUPRA.

You will notice a big increase in power from 2k-4k. Normally in BPU trim, our cars lack power here...the HPF mod gives this back to you.

Top end power? I've never dynoed my car, but it seems to be about the same as a normal BPU car. Chris dynoed at 480rwhp+ on his car, I believe.

Try the mod out...it only takes about an hour to perform. If you don't like it, return it to the way it was :)

Thanks Sean! Have you checked -- what the 0-60mph times are? I also want to know if this is a better mod than the bleeder-t?:D
G
I haven't checked 0-60 times, sorry. This is definitely better than the bleeder T. Just wait until you have all the midrange torque back. You'll love it :)

I have recently corresponded with Chris from HPF about the boost mod:

You'll pick up about 30-40 rwhp. You'll want to put your turbos back in sequential. After you do that you will wonder why the heck you had them in parallel anyway. :)

I have this mod on over 30 Supras, none have had their turbo's fail yet. That's probably around 70 years of cummulative driving with the mod without a failure.

Most people get 325-350 rwhp on the 1st turbo at 3,000rpm. Then a quicker spooling 2nd turbo and more power through to around 7,000rpm. Try it. If you don't like it, switch it back. :)

Later,
Chris.

If I attempt this mod, should I absolutely have an aftermarket BOV? Do you need a Boost Controller with this mod?
G
I have the stock BOV and no you don't need a boost controller. In 5th and 6th gears, watch out as boost will climb VERY rapidly into the upper 20psi range on the 1st turbo. You'll learn to control boost with your foot :) It sounds scary at first but it really is great once you get used to it. Good luck!

Sean
How much boost should I expect to build in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear? Right now I probably build no more than 16psi in 3rd gear...I dont know if that is normal though.
G
Boost is dependent on a few things. For example, when I had my HKS Super Drager, here are the approximate boost levels I saw:

1st gear = 17psi
2nd gear = 19psi
3rd gear = 21psi
4th gear = 23psi
5th gear = 25psi
6th gear = 27psi

Right now I have my stock exhaust on the car and boost never goes past 20psi in any gear.

Isnt this mod the same as pulling the hose to the turbo? From what I see its eliminating the VSV which can also be done with pulled hoses and vacuum caps.I see the same boost as above with the pulled hose mod.

Joe-

Read through the mod on the HPFreaks webpage. It's a little more involved than that...but that's part of it.

Hmm,must have something to do with that step down hose.Ill have to experiment with this. Thanks,

Do you have to put your turbo's back into sequential. I removed the egcv, I can't go back to sequential if I wanted to. Is it okay if I keep TTC? If not why? If I can, what are the drawbacks?

Thanks,
Chris
Is there a short way to convert a car running in TTC to this mod?

Thanks,
Mike
G
You'll have to talk to Chris at Horsepowerfreaks about the TTC thing. I've never experimented with TTC on my car so I'm not sure.

Sean
Attention: Chris

Hey one more thing Chris, Does this mod give a lot better performance than if I were to run a Profec-B boost controller? Also what are the drawbacks with HPF mod?
A lot for guys on the HPF site have FMIC on their car do I need one? What about a boost guage?
Thanks!:D
