in terms of with the ignition (turbo timer switching power off after a certain amount of time, & alarm having kill switch) is there anything I should look out for? I just got my MKIV, so excuse the rookie question. I wanted to install the timer myself, which should be done first? Alarm or Turbo Timer?

Your best bet is to kill two birds with one stone and get an alarm that can act as a turbo timer.... My Alpine 8063 has an ignition timer relay (it was a few extra bucks..) that allows me to let the car run from 15 seconds up to 10 minutes after I remove the key. I just press a button on the remote, pull the key, and arm the car. The ignition runs for a preset amount of time that can be changed instantly with the remote. There's no worries about the car not being armed until it turns off or anything...
