So I recently bought a 97 TT and it came with an AVCR unit installed I just bought a Tru boost and I planned to swap it out. Is the AVCR any good? Despite its age is it better than the TRU boost?
I loved my Apexi AVC-R back in the early 2000's. It's still great. However almost everyone these days uses the integrated boost control found in standalone ECU's (Motec, ProEFI, AEM, Syvecs.... etc).
I still have an AVC-R in mine, though I literally just bought a Haltech Elite 2500, so it will be coming out. Had it since the early days, and it's been rock-damn-solid. Once tuned to your wastegate and solenoid, it's perfect. Boost zips right up to your setpoint, and just nails there. Paired with the Apexi Super-AFC as a piggy-back, it was (still is !) a great setup for BPU.
