So I haven't heard many good things about this hotel (bed bugs, dirty, old, etc.), can anyone confirm it's a decent stay?

Also there are several options for different types of rooms. There's

Resort Tower
Resort View
Royal Tower
Royal View

Which one would be preferred to have the cleanest/newest room?

I have stayed at Excalibur nearly 20 times in the past 4 years and have never had an issue with bed bugs or any issues with a dirty room. It is one of the older hotels on the strip, so it doesn't have the top end amenities that you might find at the higher end resorts like Cosmo, Aria, etc. but the rooms have always been clean and comfortable in my many experiences at Excalibur.

Both the Resort Tower and the Royal Tower have been renovated in recent years, but the Resort tower under went a far better renovation. I would recommend the Resort tower hands down over the Royal tower, but would not recommend paying for a view upgrade because even a strip view room is not that great of a view.

The rooms do NOT have a fridge FYI

Yeah rooms were really not bad last year and I contracted no infections. After walking through the casino that smelled of wet carpet, cigarettes, and the musk of lost dreams the rooms in contrast were splendid.

:bigok:

We had no issues what so ever there, at SIV 2015. OP, where are you getting your reviews from? If you're reading online reviews, I'd take them with a grain of salt. Considering there's literally thousands upon thousands of people that stay there in a given year.

I've stayed at the Luxor next door the past few years - although not great, it is an improvement from Excalibur. It has a better ventilation system and does not smell like a smoking air freshener.

Edit: Tower rooms are much nicer at Luxor than the pyramid

The Tower rooms at Luxor are slightly nicer than Excals rooms, but the in room AC is better at Excal (especially the Resort tower rooms). The Pyramid rooms at Luxor are HORRIBLE.

Casino does have much better ventilation though, the most common complaints of Excal are "too many kids", "poor ventilation", and "gross smell"...

If you are not dead set on the strip downtown is the new "cool" thing. They are redoing/have redone alot of the older run down hotels. When I went back to vegas for my 21st (born there/lived there for 15 ish years) everyone I knew that lived there was convinced that downtown was where it was at vs the strip. I would agree as I went to both I stayed at the D downtown and it was a good price and was very new/updated and clean.

end of rambling story

For what it's worth, I've stayed in Vegas 7 or 8 times now over the last decade. The only hotel I would say was "nice" was the MGM Signature. Not too far from everything, but far enough away that it was quiet. The room was about as close to how nice our home is, that I would expect a reasonably priced hotel to be. Granted, I'm sure some of the higher end places have fantastic rooms. Am I willing to pay $500+++ per night to stay there? Not really, and it certainly isn't in the budget this year anyway.

Tower rooms at Luxor are fairly nice for the price.

Besides, if you're spending all that much time in the room, I would suggest that you're missing out on the fun of SIV anyway.

As for the lack of a fridge that Justin mentioned, a cooler goes a long way in that regard. I'd also recommend bringing something to hold you over until lunch. Some folks can go without breakfast, I am not one of those folks...

EITHER WAY... I would suggest booking a room sooner than later. That Iheartradio festival is going to be in town the same weekend that we are. Wanna take a guess at what that does to room rates? Don't delay...

Our room in 2015 looked right out at the parking area. I am not sure where we are parking this year though, so it is hard to say whether or not your room could have a view of the cars...

My wife and I go to Vegas at least 2 times a year. We have stayed at many hotels and have decided that we will only stay at the Excalibur from now on. Staff and rooms have always been great. I've paid double the price for rooms at the more upscale hotels and was very disappointed in them. I've never had a problem at Excalibur.

I think I spent a total of maybe 20 hours in the hotel last year. Sleep and shower essentially.

With that said, the room rates we get for this and the exclusive parking are more than worth it. I didn't notice any cleanliness issues with my room and the only real complaint was the lack of a refrigerator, but as te72 said, a cooler helps take care of this.
