I am wondering what you guys think is the best ECU for the money. I was looking at the AEM one that driftmotion has going but I'm trying not to spend $1300. Is there any out there cheaper? Is anybody selling one? My build is 60-1 turbo, driftmotion manifold, downpipe, intercooler, 1200cc low impedance injectors, and a few other little things. It will be using a manifold pressure sensor rather than maf if that matters at all? I don't want anything fancy, I don't want anything that's gonna cost me an arm and a leg. What would you guys recommend?Âż

Cheapest that i would run is the ecumaster but if your not trying to invest over 1k in the system do yourself a favor and dont do it. Just my opinion. Stick with piggybacks. You are gonna spend at least 1500.00 to do it half assed right including dyno time and wiring. run a map ecu3 and call it a day.

Bang for the buck ? I have about $300 in my fuel only megasquirt 1. built the ecu and the harness myself. old school, primitive compared to todays offerings - sure. but compared to piggyback tuning its light years ahead in my opinion. stand alones in general are not for the faint of heart (installing them yourself that is)...and the megasquirt line is on the harder to setup end of the spectrum --which is also the cheep end as well. megasquirt also has a product called microsquirt. if you google [microsquirt sloppy mechanics turbo] you will read about people making all kinds of power with a 299$ microsquirt ecu (with fuel/ignition control gm LS v8 turbos) and loving it. remember its not the name brand of the ecu or how much you spend that makes an engine live, its the tune. I am very happy with how my car runs on its <300$ ecu

The ECUMaster EMU is the most affordable plug and play setup out there, and the built in 4 bar MAP sensor and wideband controller make it an even better value. Can you make something work for cheaper? Yes. But not without a huge number of compromises, including engineering the majority of the system yourself.

I just moved my car over from the EMU to the EMU Black, and it has run flawlessly on both systems including oil and fuel pressure failsafes, flex fuel, rolling launch control, flat shift, boost per gear/speed, etc. Don't let the sub-$1000 price fool you, it is not short on features at all.

This guy for Pnp 7m ms3 pro set ups - http://perfecttuning.net/en/

Parts and tuning are totally real cost!

I went with a used SMB v3.57 Megasquirt 2, sold the MS2 board and bought the MS3 card along with the expansion so i have a ms3/ms3x - just the box(ecu) was around $600 total, wiring and sensors $$$, having a tune $$$, dyno time $$$.

But since this is a loving community, I was able to get a fully tuned based file from that website above and to date seven 7m's running it now. All because I was able to share the tune file that was shared with me.

No way you are doing this for less than $1500, but at that price you will have all the options you need. At this stage of the game, you are lucky to have options, when i started megasquirt couldn't even drive a 7m let alone run extra stuff, but as a MS user, its come along way and is still great bang for the buck.

And fyi - the Tuning Software is the same use by these guys: (most important of all - is the software good and easy to use, yes yes yes)
Freescale Semiconductors
Megasquirt Community
ProEFI
Monster Products
BigStuff3
Harley Davidson
Buell
Factory based OBDII
Dynojet - Power Vision, Power Commander

or

I'll sell you my box no sensors or wiring ... But I'm not offering that here, that would be against the board rules .

+2 on that EcuMaster standalone. Very good features for the money and even the "Digital ECU Tuner 3" piggyback has a built-it MAP sensor as well and is very competitive compared to other ones. I have been doing alot of research on this as well and originally I wanted to get the AEM V2 but looking more into it EcuMaster wins and that is what I will be running in the next few months.

curious about all the ECUmaster feedback on here. could you help us understand if

1. you installed your EMU / other ecumaster product yourself
2. of if you paid a shop to install and tune it

I dont intend to start a flame war on here, but guys like TerrenceLP and I built and installed our entire EFI system. we understand the (MS) system top to bottom, front to back.

If a person drops their car off and gets a (ecu master / whatever) system installed, their feedback is really limited to 1) how the car drives and 2) what the people that sold it to you say about it. not to say that is bad feedback, its just different feedback than the folks who actually installed their stand alone may give

This does bring up a good point based on averages - there are two sides of this fence, Learning how to go fast and Affording how to go fast. Neither is better or worst but a learning man has the most to gain.

So some may assume that if you did not install one (ever) than you will never have intimate knowledge of the processes. And for that very reason I started messing with cars, where as if you have the doe ray me - don't care about the knowledge and just want to have fun - Buy it all!

I absolutely love my Infinity 6! Works flawlessly and the software is extremely user friendly!

For my other project I am either going Infinity again or going with the EMU, I have heard nothing but good things about it.

Hope all the feedback helps with your decision!

I guess update for 2022...

ECUMaster has been proven for a while now and works well for the price point. I own a black, used it a few times since I bought it (not many because the car it was meant for hasn't been working for a while due to ever-expanding scope creep)

I also have an MS3 pro PNP which I used specifically for a car that was a low-mile unicorn. It works amazingly well and can be 100% PNP with OEM sensors. Of course, some extra wiring can add additional features.
