The best rules to live by when it comes to grounding amplifiers in cars is this...

Your power and ground wire should be the same gauge.

Your ground wire should be as short as possible straight down to the body of the car.

Scrape off any paint that is at the connection spot.

Use a good connection to the body. (ring terminal)

I have my rear amplifier gounded on the metal near where the stock sub resided.

Also, when possible ground the radio and any amplifiers to the same location in the car. Run a "return ground". This can cut down on "engine noise" problems.
