I spun a bearing and now have a rod knock. Its not bad can't hear it till about 3000 rpms. I parked it right away and pulled the motor. What should I do to fix it? I am trying to avoid pulling the head off. Could i just get all new bearings and rod bolt and new oil pump and put it back together or do/should I. Pull the crank and get it re done? I also heard you have to get the crank re set in the block when it gets pulled to line up with the pistions is that true? Thanks

best thing to do is take it to a good machine shop
the crank will need inspected and turned if needed...if turned then oversized bearings will be needed
you should replace piston rings aswell
no reason to go cheap lol
i would shy away from autoparts stores bearings and rings...they dont hold up long

the machine shop will do it all and depending on how good they are they will provide a warranty

idk about resetting the crank back in the block
i assume you mean installing bearings, plasti gauge and then torque main and rod caps?

That's what I thought. I was trying to avoid pullin the head off cuz I just re did the gasket and stuff. I think I'm just gonna do a 1jz swap this is the 2nd 7m that has spun a bearing on me. Both have had oil all the way full and good oil and alway changed. The motors just aren't. Reliable enough for me. Thanks for the info tho.

from my experience 7ms are reliable
it all depends on the previous owners abuse and maintence...also the age
i mean its 20+ years old...these motors are holding up great IMO
look at the newer cars and how long those motors last...not very long
i just rebuilt a 6.0l powerstroke at work...it was an 04 with 65xxx miles on it
compared to my 7m with 154xxx miles and is 17 yrs older lol
any motor is reliable
a motor with good maintence and not ragged on a whole lot will last a long time

if i was your i would take it to a good machine shop
have them do a complete overhaul
then youll be good to go for years

also the head will need removed due to pulling the pistons and setting them back in
the only go in 1 way and thats through the top
diesel engines such as the ones in the semi trucks come out through the bottom

fuck it...throw your 7m away and throw the 1jz thought away
then throw in a ISM cummins in there and youll be good to go lol J/P
