I'm sure this question has been asked before but is it necessary to install upgraded springs and retainers on 264 duration BC cams in a JDM 2jzgte, I keep getting mixed reviews on this one...

You should search about the subject, But no you do not have to

no you don't have to upgrade anything with the 264's but you do with the 272's.

Awesome thanks for the help, I am pretty sure the spring and retainer upgrade is for high rpm applications, i may just buy them while the motor is apart.

^ that might be a good idea... do it right the 1st time so you dont have to go back and do it all again.

Ive heard that you must also build the bottom end to rev higher safely, is that right?

Actually thats the beauty of the 2jz bottom end, they are built way strong. Inline configuration, the 2jz imparticular, are resilient when it comes to component failure at high rpm.
