So far im pretty set on the rx8 because its a 2 door and unique lookiing...the g35 is nice but pricey. and the is300 im also looking into, but it does look like a 4 door honda. any words of advice? Any negatives on the rx8?

Any negatives on the rx8?
Very limited aftermarket support. Very low resale value. Looks very nice. But for 15k price range I would find a clean n/a mkiv. G35 is the shit, buy you are correct, cost $$$. But I would go with 6speed g35 over rx8, anytime. RX8 is only pushing ~160hp at the wheels.
Rx-8 and hold out for the LS1 swap. :)

Btw, Rx8 is pushing more than 160hp to the wheels.
IS300 Stock is un impressive, but when you modify they can be very potent monsters. They can share many parts with the supra. Rx8 is a great daily, and do not have to do much to it to have fun. I personally do not like G35 coupes. I love the sedans though.

I agree, the Rx-8 is a fantastic car to drive everyday and for a great price. I could get the same car as mine now for 10k less than it cost a couple of years ago when I got it. If you are looking for linear acceleration get the G. If you want to take corners hard, pick the Rx-8. It makes me smile every time. Lacking in the straight line department, though.

Its good that RX8s depreciate like a rock ;) I had a one, and it was a blast. Nav, heated leather and it handled like a go kart. The car was a blast, and it was very cheap. 9000+ redline and the engine sounded like it was electric. Also, I would tie my friend in his 6MT G coupe to ~100mph every time - no BS. His car left like a tank in the handling dept compared to the 8.

Styling isnt for everyone, but the car drew a bunch of compliments rather often. Velocity Red is really a nice color.

Aside from no good way to make more power n/a, your gas mileage will BLOW. I averaged 15.5mpg with a virtually stock car. (HKS Legamax cat back only which sounded AWESOME) Also, the trunk opening is rather small/odd. The car did use some oil too, but nothing that you cant keep up on. 1 qt every 5k miles.

I agree with the syling compliments and etc. But I do not agree with an Rx-8 tying with a G35 coupe from any speed unless it was fully loaded with four people in the car and the Rx-8 was a base model. Which yours was not. Unless, of course, your friend wasn't that great of a driver.
Hes a decent driver, but I was able to holeshot that no torque having RX8 rather well. Seems like most RX8 drivers dont know how to drive. (IMO) I had the exhaust, he was stock. Im not trying to say "RX8 is faster than G35C" but I will say its not much slower at all, and with a good driver in the RX8 it might beat the G.

Lets face it, no one buys RX8s or G35s to drag race :) Magazines have them both in the 14.2 - 14.5 range....and on the street that means its a drivers race.

True, but I would certainly say the Rx-8 is a very easy car to launch. Exhaust didn't help you much, for what its worth. I agree with your statements, though. If anything, though, I would say that your front bumper would be at your friend's rear bumper to mid section by 100. No matter what, drivers equal the G35 will win everytime. I'm guessing your friend didn't launch as great as he could have.

EDIT: More people will realize how great of a car the Rx-8 is as time goes on. It has a rough start.
Very true, lacks off the dig performance, but will do better on the highways. But then again dig performance is (to me) not that useful on the street. Passing power on the street/freeway and enough power to have fun on the mountains/track/gymkhana. My ideal Rx8 would have mild aero/stock body with suspension, brakes, tires, larger wheels, air box, exhaust manifold, exhaust, test pipes and CPU/Tune. I am done lol.

If i bought a G35 coupe i would forever think that i got ripped off into buying a luxo-350Z thats slower and costs more $$$. And every G35 Coupe i see on the road has the usual blacked out tail-lights, lame limo tint all around the car and big black wheels with a chrome/polished lip and some sort of exhaust. Thats the way i see it though.
IS300 - Extremely bland and boring...reliable and good resale.

RX8- underpowered, reliability issues...good looks and handling.

G35- boring interior with sub-par interior quality...good performing sedan and a good value.

over all i'd say the G35 is the best buy...but you really need to figure out what you want in the car...

the IS300's arent bland cars..... maybe its just you that doesnt like the looks of it. i actually love the way it looks for a four door car. it may be boring in stock form, but turbo it, and you got a four door mkiv. have you driven one before? its actually a great daily driver because its so smooth and comfortable. but thats probably because its a lexus over here.
in japan and the rest of the world, it actually had a yamaha tuned 3s-ge with a 6spd manual that was pushing out somewhere north of 200bhp which is pretty good for a 2.0L. that probably is more fun to drive than what we got.

to the OP, i guess it really depends on what you want this new car to be. is it gonna be a daily driver or another project?
each car is good at something.

the IS is a great dd if youre just gonna leave it stock and not wanting more out of it. but if you do, going NA-T or swapping in a GTE motor will definenately make up for any lack of speed.

the rx-8 is good for the twisties, but lacks speed and aftermarket support. but like those other guys said, its not too much slower than the G35C.

the G35...... well down here in hawaii, i see them all the time. and every guy that has one pretty much has the same thing like that other guy mentioned(tinted taillights and windows with rims and exhaust) it's pretty common here, so it really loses any uniqueness if it ever had any. to me its just a more expensive Z.

imho DONT GET THE RX-8 !! it looks great, but when i bought a brand new 2004 a few years ago i had no idea i was gong to avergae 13mpg, need new tires in 10-12k miles and have honda civics owning me off the line.

i didnt buy it for speed but it REALLY gets annoying after awhile when you cant pull into traffic fast, you basiclly have to floor it to get it to budge. mods do almost nothing.. it ran like total ass when it got cold out also.

if you dont mind the MPG, and the oil consumption and the lack of TORQUE then go for it... it handles awesome.. and turns tons of heads..

i would go for the G35.. unless u want a rx-8 LS1 :) damn id love to have that LOL
Of the 3 i would go with the G35 for price and bang for the buck. the IS is a tiny car its like the size of a Carolla.
Before asking, "Which car should I get?" you have to provide people with some information. There really is no such thing as "the one best car," rather, there may be "the one best car for your application." To help you find it, you need to provide some or all of the following information:

* What is your budget for purchase?

* What will you be using the car for (daily driving, boulevard cruising, drag racing, highway pulls, autocrosses, short/tight road courses, long/fast road courses, some combination of the preceeding)?

* If the car is destined to spend time on the street, what are the roads like in your area (flat, straight, and congested or open and twisty)?

* What are your power goals? Give us a number - preferably a quarter mile trap speed or possibly a weight-to-power ratio.

* What octane do you want to make those power numbers with?

* Your power goals will also tell us how modified the car needs to be to meet them.

* Can you do your own mechanical work? Do you want to? This will tell us if you can get away with a car with some "quirks" or if you need a car that runs like an Accord.

* All of that will also give us an idea on total cost of ownership. Assuming you can you afford to buy the car, you need to know if you can afford to own it. They aren't the same.
