I am in the process of rebuilding my motor and when i took the caps off of the head i found some scoring both on the cam, and the cap, the head isnt as bad but u can see some lines. how critical is the surfaces for the cams? before i pulled the motor it ran good, no noises or anything.

That should be fine. I ran into the same issue when I had my head machined and the machine shop saw marks like that and wanted to redo the cams. It turns out though, that's perfectly normal and acceptable wear. Check out the second post down in this thread:

THATS NOT A PROBLEM UNLESS ITS REALLY DEEP. THIS IS SOME SORT OF A COATING TOYOTA USED ACTUALLY ON THE CAM CAPS YOU CAN TAKE EMORY CLOTH AND SMOOTH IT OUT UNLESS ITS REALLY DEEP.
