Can anyone recommend a car alarm?

My 1997 Supra did not even come with a keyless entry keypad much less an alarm system. I don't want to go into a local store and pay too much for an overpriced system. I would like to get something simple and for a reasonable price that includes keyless entry. Any recommendations? How much should the alarm cost and how much should the install cost? Thanks

My Supra has an Alpine car alarm. I've been pretty happy with it.
Mine came from the factory with one. Its the kind that lowers the Insurance i.e. when it is forcefully entered it cuts the ignition. Check the owners manual. Maybe an option, I dunno
Why don't you email Thomas Kenyon on the board. He owns a few car stereo shops in TX I believe.

Even for $300 you can get something pretty nice from DEI. i.e. Viper or Sidewinder.
i have an alpine alarm. its about 5 years old and still works great. i like the siren...has a distinct sound compared to systems.
alpine ,code alarm, dei(viper),crimestopper and crimeguard all good i think ...but an alarm is only as good as it is installed remember that! i can disable most alarms in less that 30 seconds due to the fact most store's who install them really do lousy work !

if your in texas get in touch with thomas as im sure he does good quality work as his places!
I've had about 5 years previous experience in installing car alarms, and I've used nothing but Excalibur Alarms. The best thing about these alrams is that a lot of your add on features such as starter kill, remote door locks, remote engine start, etc. all are seperate units and not wired into the alarms main unit. Therefore if a relay were to go bad, you won't have to replace the whole brain, just a single $5 relay. There are other features, but I'm sure you can investigate those if you choose.

What's Thomas's email address? How can I find it?

Why don't you get the BMW Protection Series like they have in South Africa? That's the defense system that has flame throwers that come out of the bottom of the car effectively torching any potential car-jackers :).

Jon
The Flamethrower system is good... other than that the Alpine 8063 is one of the best out there, all digital, LCD display. I have it and love it. :)

Bartel.
bad thing is about the alpine is if you drop it your screwed i have had many customers come in and get this unit then come back weeks later looking for a replacement control love the alpine hate the fact its fragile !

i will have to agree with ya on this one ranger, my dad went through like 2 - 3 LCD Display things, one time we were driving and hit a bump and the keys hit the LCD so hard it broke it, then another time he dropped it and the next time he picked it up and it was broke, very fragile.........
hmmm.... I agree with you guys on the LCD fragile issue. About alpine I thing you guys are talking about the alpine 8081, with the LCD remote, the alpine 8063 comes with an LCD display that you mount in the dash and it gives you all status, alarm times and so forth, the remotes are regular 5 button remotes, no LCD. That LCD thing is really useful.

Ciao,

Bartel.
um yup your right the alpine 8063 has the indash lcd now and not on the remotes, i thought you meant the alpine 8081!
