You would have to do a lot of fabricating to do it. It's really not worth the effort in my opinion.
Besides the hardtops are more rigid than the targa.

It would probably be better just to sell the car you have now, and buy a factory targa. It'll save you money, time, and you won't have to worry about it being done wrong.

Funny how people in US want hard top and people outside US want targa.

But it can be done, first thing you need to do is reinforce the rockers, because targa cars come with reinforcements inside the rockers.

If you need more info, just let me know. I converted my targa to hard top.

thanks for replying but it's extremely hard to find an american spec supra in my country...all of them are j-spec and was converted to LHD...and the problem with RHD converted to LHD is that they let hot air come in and has so many problems ...so my country now doesn't register converted cars or RHD ones...

I had a friend attempt this way back when he was in his early teens just messing around with this pos field bomber car they had and they cut the roof out to replicate a "targa" style and as they backed it out of the garage the story goes... "The car semi-folded to the ground meaning just the stress of driving over the lip made that much weight stress to make the center of the car touch the ground" so I'd HIGHLY reccommend using a shop that KNOWS what they are doing this conversion alone would cost my low ball guess over $5,000 with parts and labor... think... Whats your supra worth... Save your $5,000 and time, and headaches and sell your car put the money together and buy a targa supra!! That'd be a shame to risk your safety to have the option of your roof to be able to be removed...

He doesn't live in the US, hardtops are VERY common over there.

Roof conversions are very expensive. I was going to convert my targa to a hard top for structural reasons but with parts and labor I was looking at $8,000 to do it absolutely correct + paint Not worth the time money or effort.

WOW !!! This hurts my ears....

But it can be done for $$$$

I cannot believe that someone wants to do this. I realize that hardtops are really common outside of the US, but damn!
Please don't ruin a hardtop!
I bought a RHD J-spec car here in the states because I could not find a hardtop TT US-spec car. I wanted a hardtop badly enough to drive on the wrong damn side!

Yes.

Just kidding, I am sure there are a lot of people that like targas. I feel that they are cool if you are into cruising around (kind of like a convertible), but from a looks and performance standpoint....hardtop hands down.
The targa looks cool when it is off on a nice day, but I don't like seeing the lines in the roof when the targa is on.

hard tops "look" better because of no lines and the roof grooves match the hood grooves, i prefer the targa's function over hardtop any day. its nice being able to unbolt your roof when the weather is nice. in my opinion people are just on the nut seinging band wagon of hardtops because they're rare. rare doesnt always mean better :)

with the proper donor car and bracing BEFORE making a single cut, it can be done to factory spec and nobody would ever know the difference unless you gut the interior panels to see the welds. But definately targa all the way in my opinion, hardtops get annoying real fast since as far as performance goes, unless you're at the track a lot, the second you press the gas a little too hard you're getting a ticket...and pretty soon no more licence. Better to cruise in style...topless.

I have a MK3 Targa...

The bad: Leaks, pita to remove and reinstall, car handles like shit when topless

The good: Bitches love it when the top is off.

Overall, I wish I had a sunroof. lol
