I have a '93 SC400 with a '95 USDM supra 2jz-gte under the hood and the stock auto tranny(I hate autos, but the w58 is a dog anyway and itll be R154 directly). I just got it saturday so forgive the ignorance about my own ride. It appears to have an oil leak in the area of a rear main seal. Strange to a 2jz with 51k miles, but might be explained by the next curiosity... The CEL is on, but it throws no code. Yea... Seriously, no code. I jump it and the CEL is just as amber and glowing as it is without a jumper in the diag port. As one might expect, it runs like hammered sh!t. My expectation is that the ECU is shot which would explain the lack of code and the like of timing. Thoughts?

You most likely have a OBD II ECU in it that's why its not throwing the codes. If you're having issues with it... bring it over. I'll take a look at it for you.

This is a logical conclusion as I stated the ECU didnt come with the motor. I hadnt considered that possibility mainly bc I tracked down some prior posts from the previous owner about how it was throwing a couple codes last year but the problem was resolved. I cant remember off the top of my head, but I think it was 14(mb 12) and 27? Anyway, check this out...

I should have elaborated, but I wanted to make sure photobucket didnt take the liberty of resizing my pic. See the foot of the brown capacitor on the left? The solder is covered(I suppose) is a brownish-gray rough texture. Every other solder on both boards looks just like every other solder you see in the pic. It blew huh?

Oh and Kruso, Id greatly appreciate any assistance, advice, knowledge you could give me in regards to my new lover. I cant help but smile every time I realize the legendary 2jzgte is in my driveway. My project for the day is clearing other projects out of my garage to make room to tear into it. I cant wait to squeeze out the hp.

That definitely looks like a blown Capacitor, I'm about to head over to EPO (Electronic Parts Outlet off of Fondern and Westpart tollway) to pickup some random items. I suggest taking the ECU there and picking out everything from there. Bit of a hole in the wall place but an awesome place for all your electronics needs.

Also Google the model number off of your ECU and it should shed some light on whether its OBD I or OBD II.

Ive actually been to EPO, but the one over in the League City/Clearlake/Kemah area.... picking up some quick disconnects when I wired my bike. Didnt know there was one closer. I live in Katy, for the most part. I have a place on the SE side too, but I rarely sleep there. Its my gym/office/soon-to-be home(?) theatre. My soldering skills are about equal to an epileptic with palsy's. I hope there arent any other circuits nearby. It looks pretty clean in the pic. Ill head over to EPO on my way south. Ive gotta meet a client this afternoon anyway. Business + pleasure. Livin tha dream. Thanks a lot Kruso!

Well, I soldered in a new capacitor. I didnt make it to EPO yesterday and neither Frys nor Radio Shack had the proper part. However, there is little change. It seems to run a bit better, but still cuts out at 4k and CEL is still on with no code. Im buying a new ECU and hoping it solves the problem so I can go to work on this thing.

Did you search for the ECU part number?

Turns out the one that was in it was a gte ecu, but was fried. I got another from a board member and she runs great and is throwing code! I might be the happiest person ever to see a blinking CEL. Error code 27, now to research...

Thank you sir. I had actually found that exact same article in my search, on my phone. Shouldve waited until now and spent that time pulling my suspension...

So, sub heated oxygen sensor error... According to my understanding of everything Ive read, this error code is in reference to the 'secondary' o2 sensor? This car has (currently) ghetto fabbed exhaust (not my doing obviously) which sounds like my '88 bronco and ends just behind the first cat. I have no idea where this pipe/cat came from but from my iphone lit visual exam there is no other o2 sensor than the one in the downpipe. The one in the downpipe looks pretty new, but I cant tell where it connects. Soooo, wire up a secondary o2 and problem solved? I understand that the secondary o2sensor plugs in under the passenger seat on the stock supra, I have no idea where this connector might be in my car. Anybody have a pic of what Im looking for? Shot-in-the-dark....
