Hello everyone.

What do you guys think about a CARBON LEATHERETTE Shift boot for manual Supras? It is a simulated leather with carbon-fiber design pattern that looks like carbon fiber. I have some pics here with this type of leatherette on another car, being used on both the shift-boot and the headrests:

Here I'm showing these leatherettes in silver and black patterns. You can feel the texture of the patterns. They are not cross-hatched like regular CF patterns, but looks like them.

They could be produced in black, silver and possibly other colors. The stitching color could be changed also.

I don't want to give a price yet. But these will be cheap :D Like my Supra emblems. I think I will be making a prototype piece for the Supra first before you guys think about the price. For now I just want to gather interest. Let me know what you guys think!

Thanks!

I'd love one for my shift boot. Matches the dash and I could use a new one anyway. Thanks

thanks for the heads-up. But I don't see any info regarding these leatherettes on their website. Did you contact them directly and they told you about it?

I would order one immediately. I was just about to go buy some material within the next few days, since I have no boot in
my car right now.
If we decide to make them they should be produced faster than the Supra emblems so wait-time should be shorter.

thanks for all the valuable info.

I was wondering how much do you guys think is an acceptable price for a shift-boot? I'm trying to keep the cost down so I can pass that onto you guys, but I don't wanna go cheap on the quality and the materials. If you guys could give me an estimate of what you guys expect to pay, I will do my best to provide the best quality product possible while maintaining the cost to you guys as attractive and reasonable as possible.

How about choosing a good material, looking to see what it costs, figure out a reasonable profit, and tell us what you would want?

Actually there really isn't a reasonable profit. Same with my Supra emblems, I'm pretty much just getting back labor costs plus some gas money for driving 60 miles roundtrip to the manufacturer everyday :p I'm seeing what we can pull off from the resources we have, and trying to figure out what type of business practices can attract buyers.

But you're right about your point also. I will have the prototype made. For now I will just gather interest :D like I did last time.

Is it just me or does the thought of making something not rigid that looks like CF similar to making a tire that looks like aluminum? It just doesn't make sense. I like the look, but I just can't get past the fact of function.

But what do I know, I am an old fart around here. :)

Later, Steve

If it costs $5 to make, sell it for $10. If it costs $20, sell it for $35 or $40. Your time is worth somehting - so long as the end price isn't nutz people will pay reasonable costs. Doing stuff for "fun" quickly becomes work if you don't get something out of it. Don't shortchange yourself...

which model AMG uses carbon fiber leather? I looked everywhere and couldn't find it.
I do not know the particular model. I have a source in Germany that can deliver it to me. Only one problem, after shipping it is ~$385 a yard by 50" wide. If you are interested, PM me your contact information and I can see what I can do for you.
