quick question

will a toyota dealership carry the supra's differential fluid?
does anyone have a part number on the differential fluid?
I am having my tranny fluid and differential fluid changed by
RPM motorsports-would you guys trust an aftermarket shop over a toyota delaership when it comes to standard maintenance?

thanks guys

Whom to trust to do the work is entirely dependent on the individual mechanic's qualifications and quality of work....

Any toyota dealer should carry the diff fluid and the transmission fluid, but most of them don't know which is the correct fliud.

For the diff, you need: GL-5 SAE 90 gear lube. (No limited slip additive necessary, actually Toyota advises against using one in the Torsen).

For the 6-sp transmission, you need: Toyota V160 gear lube.

A toyota dealership better carry them (or at least be able to get them if not in stock). Something like Mobile or Redline synthetic differential fluid should work fine. For tranny, be sure to get ONLY the recommended fluid for your type of tranning. Type IV for autos come in a metal gallon can (costs around $30..only need like 2L). If you have a 6SPD, I am not too sure about type but it will cost you like $60/quart? not very cheap. Best advice is buy the right fluid and have/watch someone do it..whether RPM or not. Dropping it off at some dealership may be risky. I have been to a few dealerships in the past that did not know what I was talking about when asking for the Type IV auto tranny fluid..they just handed me some cheap Dextron ATF crap....not good.

does anyone have part numbers for the v160 tranny fluid and the differental gear oil- the toyota parts people are retarded. no joke-absolute retards-they sound like they just came out of a coma and have no fucking clue how do anything unless given very specific instructions- this is why i am entrusting rpm to do the work and not toyota-an't wait until i have to get my fucking car aligned

thanks for everyone's help

I don't have the part #s but I'll say it again... the *ONLY* place to get toyota parts (IMHO) is from Jeff Watson at Jay Marks Toyota. 1-800-327-2087.

under normal circumstances i would - however - i'm having a whole bunch of stuff done on my car on wednesday-and since the supra is my only ride i'd like to have everything done in a day-thus my reason for attempting to get the parts from a local dealership. i've actually spoke with jeff before -really nice guy - got a trd drop in filter from him. thanks though

How often are you supposed to change those fluids?
