!,check engine and TRAC OFF lights all lit up

Passing along info. in case anyone is having a similar problem.

I'm currently BPU, no egr mod, TRAC fuse not pulled.

All 3 lights lit up when I got on the highway, thought I fixed the problem when I found a badly cracked vac. cap to a TRAC control related part. Reset the ECU, but once again the 3 lights came on. I noticed that if you drive in city traffic the lights never come on but once I get on the highway, not even a couple of minutes and all 3 light would come on. This was repeatable, reset ECU, drive in city traffic OK, go on highway and instant Christmas lights.

Pulled the ECU code(OBDI) and came up with code 71 "EGR Malfunction". Hoses looked OK, tested the EGR modulator OK, EGR that one I don't know how to test for so I gave up and went to the dealer, cringe $98/hr labor. They suspected clogged EGR lines and unclogged it. Got the car back today, took it out for a nice long cruise on the highway and the !,check engine, TRAC OFF light did not come on. :) :)

My car has the exact same symptoms your car had. Any idea on how to unclog the egr lines? I don't feel like paying $98/hr. to get this fixed by toyota.

Thanks,
Chris

Sorry Chris,

If you can find a local shop(non Toyo dealer) that you trust they usually charge less. I learned my lesson though, I just ordered the service manuals, it probably has the procedure in there to clean the EGR lines. The manuals cost $$$ but they'll pay off in the long run.

I had the same problem but I have no mods except the T-bleeder mod. I found a loose hose behind the intake manifold, near the top. Check for loose hoses, from what I hear, thats usually the case, but Im not perfect.
