I'm not really in the market but i've been really starting to like the G55 and wanted to know how it fares against some of the other top suv's. what do you guys like out of the following?? Feel free to rate these

2011 Porsche Cayenne Turbo (ugly exterior, fantastic interior, powerful engine, good fuel economy, and of course its a Porsche)

Fuel Consumption (Highway)
22 mpg
MSRP: $ 106,000.

2011 G55 AMG (handsome brute, a bit to rigid, very expensive, rare)

5.5L V8, 24 valves, 500 hp @ 6100 rpm
5 speed automatic transmission
11 mpg city / 13 mpg hwy
MSRP: $115,739

Hummer h2 (in your face, inexpensive, roomy, cheap interior)

Engine: 6.2L V 8 overhead valve with VVT ( 10.5 :1 compression ratio ; two valves per cylinder)
Fuel: E85 and/or premium unleaded 87
Multi-point injection fuel system
32.0 gallon fuel tank
Power: 393 HP ( 293 kW) @ 5,700 rpm; 415 ft lb of torque ( 563 Nm) @ 4,300 rpm

Range Rover Sport (almost common place, fantastic luxury, great looks inside and out, good value for $)

4WD 4dr SC 4-Door Four Wheel Drive SUV, 510 bhp, 461 lb-ft, 6-sp Automatic, 12/17 mpg MSRP: $75,999

I have been in love with the G- wagons for a very long time. They really are built fucking bullet proof and are one of the few vehicles i know of that have three fully lockable differentials. The G-wagon to me and a lot of car enthusiast is on a league of its own when it comes to rarity, class and prestige. Even in places such as South Beach a nice G55 always stands out :)

Cayenne Turbo--- great car and maybe the fastest of the group but the 4wd system is good but not great
MB G55 AMG---great rare truck one of my favorite of all time a true tank
Hummer h2-good truck but would rather the AMG
Range Rover sport supercharged -- love this truck but you are right about the common place statement and still with the electrical problems

G wagon are some of you serious? Cayenne Turbo without a doubt. G wagon is for status only but looks horrible in person. Range Rover or Cayenne should be the question.

Cayenne hands down, let me tell you why in my opinion.

from what i've read the Range Rovers aren't very reliable. so that should steer you away.
The H2? REALLY? your looking at a SUV for $80-100k and you throw in a 15k used pos GM product? why not just get a REAL H1?
The G55 would be badass, but a bit goofy, i love benz and i would like a G Wagon....but they are just goofy.

i've been in a handful of Cayennes, both turbos and not. They are a ton of fun.

rarity, class and prestige are exactly the reasons i'd want one. I don't plan on doing any extreme off-roading or even DD-ing it so its on the top of my list as of now. i've even joined the forums and am loving what i'm reading and learning so far. maybe i'll have to start looking at having some off-road fun with her

i beg to differ. I love the style of the G. its very raw and yet classy at the same time..no easy feat. the rr is at the bottom of my list..well the h2 has fell out completely haha. i'm not how i feel about the new look of the cayenne, didnt like the first gen and not sure if i like the 2nd enough to eventually get one. i'm not planning on doing any fast paced twisty road driving in an suv so that part doesn't appeal to me

thanks for taking the time to explain your choices. yeah the h2 was a bit of a wild card lol what do you mean goofy?? I also haven't been in a turbo cayenne but from what i heard they've got a monster engine. I'm starting to steer clear from the rr as well the reviews and technical problems seem to still be around. I'm going to also look at the h1 not sure how i might enjoy driving that if i decide to DD it. it just seems really over the top even for someone like me.

G is appreciated. But all these are status SUVs imo. Unless you really plan to go off-road on them.
like i mentioned in a comment above yours...i'm no big off-roading guy, however the roads in Trinidad (where i plan to bring the car) are far from smooth. I want something that will stand out, but be solid and able to take a beating if necessary. I'm afraid the rr and CT won't be up for the job...and let's not even mention the h2 haha

Ive owned them all...

Cayenne is a nice vw.. They handle like a mofo but are not as fast as one with think. If you like it just buy a vw and save a lot.. everything inside the porshe has vw stickers on it. Id look for a toureg v10 turbo diesel used... save you about $60K and get good mileage.

The G wagon is the shit, but what makes it cool makes it suck.. The seats are un comfie, it rides like crap do to the straight axles, (think 1990 jeer wrangler) the aerodaminics make you "work" when you on highway trips. The box style make reflections at night. If a car is comming from the right, you then see if from the left.. takes some time to get use to it. And depending on years, they can be a electronical night mare, Now with that said i miss mine and would love another one. If you plan on using any of them off road. Nothing will go where the G class will... we took mine up motor cycles trails so steep that it drug the spair tire as we started up.. granted you need to swap tires.. the stock ones will get you stuck on the grass

The Hummer H2. Beefy looks, comfie, about the same mileage as the others but a lot slower.. Good news, everyone has one so your not spotted ever time you leave the house, as with hte G depending on here you life there are not a lot of them ( when i had mine MBUSA was only about to average 14 cars a month sold) If you get a 07 + H2 it will have 100K mile power train warranty and 07's can be had in the $30's.. If you do a H2, get a 08+ they have the 6.2L motor, and 6L95E trans which is a 6 speed and the updated interior that looks a lot nicer. Im currently looking for a high high mileage black H2 to use off road, and in the snow.. Ive seen a few 03 model in the $13K range.

The Rover, where to start... They look good. Have awesome leather interior, but they dont do anything well. Even the supercharded ones are slow, and well at the end of the day its still a rover, which have never been a good product..

All in all you cant really go wrong with any of them... Just drive a G wagon a few days before you buy it.. my wife hated ours and refused to drive it... they just simpley ride like shit. But i loved it...

Mileage wise, the G got between 11.5 to 13 mpg in town. the cayenne was about the same, 12 ish, the Hummer is about 10mpg..

here is the new dash and navi in the 08 H2's

What about the X5 M?
i'm interested in something that will stand out.

thanks for the reply as well. I definitely don't want a diesel. If i we're staying in the states with it then yes i'd probably opt for one but i'm planning to ultimately take it back with me to Trinidad. No road trip can take more than 2hrs max, so the overall comfort of the seats isn't THAT important and I might not even DD it. I had the h2 up there as a wild card, given the price. But you seem to be the only one who has anything positive to say about it lol. Not to mention that even with the updated interior it can't compare to the G or RR. The last thing i want to do is have to deal with a bunch of mechanical problems so I think the RR is gone and its also waaaaaaay to common here in Trini. There are no G classes here which is a very good and possibly bad thing, but parts etc aren't that hard to find. I dont plan on doing any major off roading as mentioned above so i think the G will be best :)

it really comes down to what you want to do with it.

Also keep in mind on a G class that when they dont sale a lot of them no one stock parts and the mechanics have no clue. I sold mine when the warranty was up.. it had $48K in repairs and still having issues.. Some where along the line 06 or 07 maybe mb went to the G550 new trans and motor. updated dash etc... The G55 with the blower is a lot of fun, but it mb degraced it in my opinion. Yes 456 hp and 500lbtq is freaking fun in that sucker, but they lowered the suspension, wider tires and wheels, wider finder flairs.... The G was built to be used not all blinged up..

On mine i did a 3" lift, imported a winch bumper for germany, and bead locks wheels. i also dechromed it all..

They are a true love hate relation ship.

If i had the money to blow my next suv would Be a Hummer H1. they are slow but just bad ass... however im not normal they tell me.

The H2 isnt a bad product... everyone says its a rebodied tahoe, but in reality its a rebodied 2500 truck... you get the same drive train as a turck, different frame and body. I think there bad rap started becuse gm sold so many, then the news killed them with the gas stories. In reality they are no worse than any other suv ive owned. The wife has a 2011 denali its gets 11 mpg just about ever tank. my 01 beater 2500 sububran gets around 8 mpg. but it has 496ci big block and lift kit..

Id decided on what you want it for.. then look from there..

After my problems with imported anything, i went back to all gm stuff. The hastle of service, warranty problems, and deperation just arnt worth it to me... Some people love them and say its the only way to go.. But when a oild chage is $150 on a G500 vs $22 on the wifed denali, thats more comfie, faster, and everything works like it should its kinda a no brainer...

Also if a powerful suv is what you want why now a Esculade or Denali. Those truck with s simple blower install will make 550-600 hp all day long with no issues.. My wifes stock denali ran 14.9 @90 100% bone stock.. the modified cayanne turbo went 14.2 @100.. 10 mph is a lot dont get me wrong, but so is the $55K price of denali vs $120K price of the cayenne.. I mean you drop $10-15K on denali and make 700-750 hp pretty easy, or just turbo the bitch..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4U8T3vRECOI&feature=player_embedded - Chris Harris reviews the G

http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evo...desbenz_gwagen_g350_bluetec_video_review.html

The Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen might not strike as you as the most evo of cars. Yet what you see here is no regular, school-run SUV. It's a German Land Rover Defender alternative, a tough all-terrain vehicle that's been in production since the 1970s and boasts genuine off-road ability, as well as military credentials.

After a good chunk of time away, it's now back on UK sale. And while the monster G55 AMG version will always grab the headlines, the G350 Bluetec diesel is torque-rich and much better suited to the boxy Wagen's more utilitarian nature. In our exclusive video review, below, Chris Harris gets dirty with it on and off road.

Anyone that things that the G is for status only is wrong. It is one of the best off road SUVs period. There is not much it cant handle.

Well i would like to drive it multiple times during the week for a commute. But have some mild off-roading fun as well. The roads in trinidad are far from perfect and there's numerous times when 4x4 capability is great! The bling factor is also something i like, it may not please the purists but it attracted me to the brand... May i ask what model you had that ran up almost 50k in maintenance fees? I figured MB would be rock solid and not something temperamental...your comments are worrying now lol. I'm not a fan of any domestic suv at the moment, or at least not excited enough to consider any. I do want the new gauges and the upgraded interior and engine I'm looking at the 04 and 06+amg's...the last thing i want to get suck with is a good looking money pit. do you mind sending me some pics of your current G?
