Should the plate and wave washer inside the 6 speed be free to move around? How do you know when they are installed correctly?

Here's the situation, I'm doing an auto -> 6 speed swap. The 6 speed is in the car now and everything is bolted together. If I reach my hand through the access panels and feel behind the pressure plate, there are 2 rings (not c-clamps) that are free. Where do they go? Do I need to drop the tranny again?

Here is a link to a diagram...

Did you put the snap ring on top of the washer? If you did then you are fine.

I cna't feel a snap ring. Nothing is there holding the 2 washers on anything on the back of the pressure plate.

the weird thing is I pulled the tranny out of the donor car and never took the pressure plate out. I'm thinking it could have been that way on his?

I wouldn't do that. Get the toyota snap ring if you need one. I'm sure Jeff or Curt could overnight it if needed.
