I found a disk of pictures I took at a NOPI race at English way back in 2002. Let's see who is really old school and can name these cars:) man I miss packed fields full stands and lots of sponsored cars.

Meh, 2002 was like the beginning of the end.

95-99 were the glory years, everyone on vastly different combinations and setups, nobody was a professional, nobody had big corporate money.

I see the GM involvement in the last 2 photos and cringe...

This was my favorite car of all time. The nelson hoyos ford focus that was banned at the end of 2001. This was the first car to compete in a all import series that was factory sponsored by ford.

Good, the focus is not an "import".

And I beleive 2002 was about the time that you were driving that smurf-dick blue Talon and everyone on dsmtuners flamed you off the board.

If I can find pics of your cool milk jug catch can I'll post them up.

ahhhh , the good ole days. I will agree 02 was kind of the ending of things. Things are much different these days. Too corporate.

I personally really liked his "Smurf Dick Blue" DSM.

I liked the original RWD Focus, from Max Somethingorother, better. Powered by an Cosworth YBX motor. Before AEBS bought it and ran it with RJ Simrock.

The hoyos car had the same 4.3L (i think) pushrod cosworth V6. It was running 7.40's when everyone else was trying to run low 9's

IIRC it wasn't a Cosworth V6, but one out of the Goody's Dash cars. The car I'm talking about had a YBX, based off of the 2.1L 4cyl architecture of the YBP/YBT engines in the Escort Cosworth, but the YBX engine was "stretched" with the cylinders very far apart, meaning you could bore the fuck out of it, or run insane amounts of boost.

Of course I still remember going to Moroso in 1996 when Sakura first came over and was running low 8's when nobody else was even into the single digits and Toyomoto was running 10.9's in the SC300.

you're right

from Nelson Hoyos

Well, I built a 4.7 liter engine, twin turbos, 2315 lb. The engine platform is a Ford Motorsports 4.5 liter version of the Thunderbird/Supercharged/Taurus power plant

True about E-town. Last year's Summer Slam had a spanish radio station broadcasting/performing,that brought in quite a few women.
I haven't gone to MIR in years, probably back in 2001. I remember attending their first official import event (same with Etown). Everytime I go to a Maple Grove event it's raining, that last uncancelled event I went to was around the time Ara and George split,Ara crashed pretty hard and had to be hospitalized.

The Simrock AEBS Focus was originally from England. IIRC it took the AEBS guys a while to crack the same kind of times the original owner ran..they also flipped it once.

Anyone remember Venom's Tundra? Scranton may have been the first to crack 200 but the Tundra was the first in the 6's.

2002 is old school?

Considering the sport is dead and it gained popularity around that time and peaked around 2004 I would say yes.

I was at the track when Venom ran that 6-second ET. Very impressive, and the guys on the crew were actually very cool.
