Has anyone ever converted their hardtop into a targa top?

Can it be done?

How much should this cost including parts and labor?

Thanks for any help provided.

why would you want to do that?

the hardtop provides for a more rigid body and is also lighter overall.

good luck, either way

heres why i would want to do that.
SE's are cheap and usually have less mileage than the targa tops.
Second, when you live in southern california and can't find a targa top if your life depended on it, you could settle for getting a SE and converting it. Third, the car looks so nice with the top off.

Yeah, I know, but I'm not doing any type of racing with this car.

I just want the targa top for the luxury.

I have had the same question because I am about to move South (SC) and would love a targa top.

The hardbody is better for speed, but its an NA in the first place :p.

So since you want targa, you really should simply get a Targa car.

The conversion HAS been done, but it was done at home, with the help of a local shop, and cost the guy a lot of $$ to do.

Since you have to carve and stuff on your own, there is much room for error, Meaning: Possibly doesn't fit, squeaking, etc.

So just get a Targa, and don't buy a Hardtop in anticipation of Targa'ing it (thats a new word lol). The price to do it for the guy was really REALLY up there.

It's like Turbo'ing an N/A. Just get a TT damnit! :p. And give me that old NA MKIV of yours with High Mileage, thats what I want/can afford! :p.

Oh man, you guys don't even want to think about doing this.... Way to many structural things to worry about, much less the leaks, ect that you might get. If you already have a hardtop, just put in a nice moonroof, or trade it for a targa.

Converting to turbo makes more sense. Forget it! Get a sun/monnroof from a reputable outfit or buy a targa. Supradaddy n/a has one! He said he bought it that way.

here is an option.....

This is what I am doing to my na, I wanted something really different from what my TT is, so this is what I am doing.

Check out the picture

It's not a convertible, so to speak, it just doesnt have a top any more........

Still under construction......

Is that the actual car? It just looks like you took the picture and doctored it with Photoshop.

Do you plan to be able to re-attach the roof?

No, It's not a joke. I did this photo on the computer to see what it might look like before I cut the car. The car is coming along very nicely. I have the structural supports added in and the body lines are looking very nice. Hopefully will get some pictures for yall to see later.
Here is a picture of the car before the photoshop
