I've been searching for an hour; and getting a LOT of conflicting information in every thread I am finding. I don't want to strip my head bolts or waste money.

"Its a T55 Torx socket...trust me on this"
"Its a 12mm. I bought mine from snap on. Do not use the T55 as that will strip the bolts."
"12mm triple square. We use it on all 2jz and VW Vr6. None strip."
"its a freakin 13mm, 12point socket."
"It's a 10mm double Hex, not Torx or triple square."
"it's NAPA part #2306, 12mm Serrated Wrench - for 12 point metric socket head screws"

SNAP-ON SADM10E 1/2" Drive Metric 10 mm Lexus®/ Toyota®? Double Hex Socket Driver
"• Applications include removal/installation of head bolts on Toyota® Highlander®, 4Runner®, Camry®, Matrix®, Corolla® and Lexus® IS300, GS300, SC300 vehicles"

SNAP-ON STSM12E 1/2" Drive Metric 12 mm Standard Triple Square Bit Socket Driver

head bolt removal starts @ 9:50

People have directed towards both of these snap-on products; the 10mm double hex which shows the 2jz being listed; and the 12mm triple square. When watching the video above, he shows he was told to purchase the CTA Tools #9292 which also shows as a Toyota 10mm double hex; and doesn't fit his bolts whereas the NAPA Carlyle Part # SER 2306 appears to drop directly in snuggly.

Is this what everyone else uses?

I'd like to clear this up so when others search the forum or google they aren't driven towards 7-15 year old posts with wrong information.

I literally just did this. Removed the stock head. This is the correct tool - CTA 9292

Had to tap it in gently with a hammer due to the bolt head being full of oil and the very tight fit. Soaked up most of the oil with paper towel first, but enough was left in the head well to "squirk" out - actually sounded like that. Squirk.

I have it documented as a 10mm allen head in the writeup I did when I disassembled my motor. That's what I used. Not a 12-point...just allen head, which would be 6 points.

^ I removed the stock head bolts with the 10mm allen. When I put it back together, I used ARP studs instead, so totally different tool.

So then the manual is correct, 10mm double hex / bi hex but probably needs to be tapped in because of oil and dirt, 12mm triple square works but is slightly smaller.
