You need way more than just the trans. It's been a while since I swapped, but I remember having to get a trans, diff, clutch, and ton of smaller part. Also the driveshaft has to be swapped or modified IIRC. Figure $2-5K for used parts (depending on condition), and a whole lot for labor if you don't plan on doing it yourself. It would be cheaper to sell your car and buy a 6spd.

Do a search, as I remember some old threads that had detailed lists of all the parts need for the swap.

you could get a 6spd trans, and the front half of the 6spd driveshaft if you dont want to do the diff just yet

Some guy is gonna do it for me $6000 for all the parts (used) and a rebuilt tranny and labor.
See if "some guy" is doing everything on the list Mystik has. I doubt it.
But - maybe you are lucky!

Just finished my swap right before tx2k5. I ended up spending around 7,000 on parts . I could have spent less$ but i figured this would be a good time for an better clutch, new flywheel, trd lsd, b&m short shifter, trd tach and other misc stuff.I thought about selling my car but with only 30xxxxmi it would be hard to replace, in the end it all worked out and i couldnt be happier.

That's rather inflated, most people doing this swap A.) aren't going to be buying new parts for the tranny/diff, B.) are probably putting in a JDM motor which will include an ECU OR they'll be going standalone. If you look hard enough I'm sure you can find someone who's gone 6 speed to auto and grab the majority of the "clutch parts:" for a reasonable price. I'm not sure the tach is necessary(could be wrong with this).

Buying clutch parts from Toyota is a bit silly too, they absolutely killed me on parts for my MK3 when I needed to buy stuff through them. Definitely worthwhile to take the time and try to find someone parting a few things out or looking into anything you can find aftermarket.

Why not just sell your car, buy a 6 speed, and then use that money you were going to dump into a swap for a single kit?

You are an idiot. First, most people are going from auto to stock 6 spd from my experience. Secondly, I have not seen anyone that I can recall doing an auto to JDM 6 spd? WTF. It's the same fucking thing so how's the cost going to be different? Most people do have to buy new parts. Where are you going to find good used synchros? I guess people are just ditching good used parts for fun now. It's not easy to find good used 6 spd parts. It's very difficult and VERY time consuming. It is worth the money to buy new parts for 1) time invested and 2) heacaches of buying crap and getting punked. I don't know if you noticed, but aftermarket parts are most expensive, and more importantly, not warrentied by Toyota.

Jaxx has the right idea.

Edit: the link is in the Toyota/Scion section. Contact Curt Aigner.

First off Thanks for the words of encouragement! :D Second, auto to stock 6 speed you can still pick up a v160 with a bad synchro for around $1k-$1.5k and rebuild it for cheaper than the cost of a brand new one. The cost of JDM Auto to 6 speed(or even stock auto to 6 speed) will be different because you initially don't need the 6 speed ECU if you can live with the timing pull. Used synchros? wtf I was talking differential/transmission/etc all the big parts which you can get when people upgrade.

Warrantied parts... You're kidding right? You put a warrantied part in a modified car and toyota's going to laugh at you when you bring it in. Not to mention they laugh at you anyway for parts that could take abuse from "the way you drive." They tried to blame 3 clutch failures on me when it was their fault for putting in one with the wrong number of dampeners and this is on a stock car. I had to do a load of research and I finally got it out of my one of my father's friends who owns a dealership out in the boonies that toyota was putting the wrong clutches in this particular car.
