Cylinder Head Flow Numbers

1159 Views 20 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  XCELR8
Does anyone have port flow numbers of a stock head vs. a ported one? Ported and 1mm O.S. valves? I'll be flow-testing mine soon... just wanted some numbers for comparison.

Thanks in advance,

ak

Anybody with this info?

Thanks,

ak
I was supposed to get before and after flow charts between stock setup and 2 mm oversized ferrea valves and porting, but I supposably got only the "after" flow charts. When I talked to the guy that built the head and asked him why there were no before charts, he said that they built heads in this config several times before and the improvement was always around 25%. Anyway, the intake/exhaust port flow charts are attached. Again, supposably after the upgraded valve train and porting was done. I can't vouch for whether they are accurate since I think the whole situation on flowcharts was fouled up (i.e. I don't know what I really got).
XCELR8,

Thanks for your posts. Can you tell me about the rest of your hardware, like turbo(s), cams, etc... and hp/tq?

Thanks a lot,

ak
I've always wondered if the flow is even between the exhaust ports... since they're not symmetrical...

Any thoughts?

The current mods soon to be complete:

- HKS T04R modified by FasTrax with a T51 compressor wheel, different exhaust wheel, and machined housing
- Head: HKS 272 cams, Ferrea 2mm oversized valves, hi-rev springs, titanium keepers. Portwork, 3 angle valve job, HKS head gasket
- Engine: JE 0.020 over pistons w/ Swaynetek coating, carrillo rods, UPFD crank girdle, ARP hardware

Before the engine buildup on the stock bottom end and head only with 272 cams, it peaked at 651 rwhp, 650 ft-lbs. The spool up was 300 rwhp at 4500 rpm, ~500 rwhp at 4800 rpm, 600 rwhp at 5000 rpm, ~630 rwhp at 5500 rpm, peak hp hit at around 6700 rpm.

Jim,

That's one awesome ride man! Have you dynoed with the new setup? The idle quality is intimidating!

ak
One more thing... do you have pics of the UPRD girdle kit?

Thanks,

ak
No, it's still going back together after the engine mods.

Check out the next few attached pics. First one is block without the crank girdle in place. Second one shows the crank girdle before being attached. Third one shows the crank girdle in place (save the pic and zoom in to get a better look).

second one.
third and final one.
Very nice! We've used that style girdle quite often on Mazda Miata and small block chevy racing engines at my shop. Quite effective in keeping the caps in one piece. Have you seen any 2JZ main caps break or is this just for insurance?

ak
Just insurance. The engine is being built for any future plans I might have for an even bigger turbo and/or direct port NOS.

Are you sure on the 2 mm oversized valves...Ferrea dosen't have any 2mm oversized valves for the supra

Can you explain the use of the girdel

Why you use it
does UPFD have a website?

Thanks,

ak
I'm pretty sure that UPFD does not yet have a website up given that they got a new ISP only about a month ago.

Regarding 2 mm oversized valves: for some reason that # stuck in my memory and when I go back to my service order it only calls out ferrea oversized valves. That could be 0.5 mm or 1 mm oversized, but I'm pretty sure they are 1 mm oversized.

If you'd like more info on the main stud girdle, send your inquiry to [email protected] .
