i had a nasty clogged exhaust in my 88 NA and have been running on it for a few months (no money for a good aftermarket as i am saving for a turbo model). this past weekend i disconnected where the cat meets the piping that leads to the muffler. so i still have the cat but thats it. my top end is hella fast now and although it is pretty loud (sounds like a V8 when i rev it hard), it is alot faster now. any comments, suggestions?? is this gonna hurt my car at all?? do notice an occassional backfire when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. just wanted to get all the facts straight cus if its harmful i'll reconnect it today. thanks for the help guys.

I had a 90 accord with just a straight pipe and no muffler, and I never had any problems.

Unhooked the second cat from my car and it sounded like ragged ass. Might sound better w/ just the muffler(s) removed.

I hope to fix this issue w/ a turbo.
