i was wondering if anybody has completely removed the bottom plastic engine cover. i could get to a lot more things without it, and i am constantly dropping things into it and having to retrieve. or is it needed for airflow?

I haven't had mine on for a year or so and I havn't seen any problems with it not there. I've had the car above 160 before and after and the car felt no different from what I could remember either way. *shrug* the engine bay gets dirtier alot quicker though.
I took mine off along time ago and encountered no problems. I see you have a subaru. Do you know where i can buy a WRX downpipe? Preffer if you knew more than one place that carries them. Thanks.

http://www.vishnuperformance.com has a kit that includes a downpipe. Go to http://www.i-club.com and ask around.

I have run without my engine undercover for over a year with no ill effects except as mentioned the engine bay gets dirty faster. But then again with my euro spec hood scoop it gets dirty anyway ;-)
I make a once a month ritual of good engine bay scrubbing.

Have fun,

I've heard that there is positive air pressure beneath the car that can prevent the air from escaping the engine bay at high speeds leading to overheating problems. I think the viper has to had one of these undercovers when they go out on a roadcourse to prevent overheating. I would just leave it on.

Cheers.

I agree. I have been without mine for awhile, with no noticeable problems except it gets dirty faster. But, I think it should be obvious in this case that Toyota engineers know a little more than us. I would put mine back on if I could find it. Leave it on if possible, or send it to me.

thanks everyone, as for the subaru, the above mentiond is correct. i also know that mvp motorsports has a wrx section, also warehouse performance. i wish i could put the wrx 5-speed trans in my svx? as with all svx cars, mine will need a $3000 trans soon!!
