I've seen that more and more people are going to a tall drag radial style tire at the mile now? Is this considered safe? People have been running on the Hoosier road race tires for awhile that seems to have proven itself. But running a big DR style tire just seems dangerous. For 200+ is a DR safe?

Call the tire manufacture, they'll most likely say no.

i talked to mt a few weeks ago, they said for sustained speed, like texas mile they do not recommend ANY of their tires, esp the drag radial.

Hoosier road race are meant to be sustained speed, plus they can handle curves.
