This problem started many months and threads ago. My drive belt was squealing for dear life. Looked at the tensioner, look warren so I replaced it, still squealed. Did the PS pump, didn't help. did the belt, and it shut up for a month or 2. Now it squeaks when I first rev it or if the AC is on. Gave it a quick rev while looking at the Crank Pulley and its moving alot when it squeaks. When I replaced the belt I checked it and it didn't seem loose but looking at this video it seems it might be the problem. I'm really sick of throwing money at such a stupid problem so do you think its the crank pulley based on this video?

not sure about that, never seen that happen before. Its not just the belt moving its the pulley to. Something is very wrong with that. i would be pulling that crank pulley off and make sure all is good with your balancer.

The inner part of the pulley doesn't seem to move, just the outer. Wouldn't crank walk get louder higher RPMs?

Op. If the outer part of the damper is moving. And the inner isn't.

It sounds like its a seperated damper. Removed the belt and see if you can move it by hand.

A seperated damper will cause squeaking and a wandering belt like that too. The high pitch sound might be the damper tuching the plate behind it as it revs up.

Check that then report back

Your crank pulley has seperated. The outer ring is pressed onto an inner ring. Mine seperated on my NA supra and the outer ring fell off completely. Its made of to pieces with some kind of rubber or something in it to act as a dampener. I replaced mine with an aftermarket on. I wouldnt even consider crank walk until replacing that pulley.

I knew the pulley was two pieces just didn't know how much the dampener was supposed to move. Summit still the best place to get an ATI pulley? Also see people talking about a $12 belt they got for the ATI pulley, where?

its a longer belt. i would buy a gates belt from oreilly, do a search for ati damper belt and find the size, cant remember what it was, 50* for the size.

and the pulley is not supposed to move at all. the outer and inner and held in place by a rubber damper, once that rubber gives way, the entire outer is free to move around and you can even pull it off by hand and youll see... not sure if i have pics of mine when i changed it 3 months ago or not.

edit:

this is what happened to your pulley. notice how i could pull the bottom section off of it.

edit:2

cant believe it took people that long to say it was the typical seperated stock damper.... and assumed it was crankwalk first... that is a TON of play for crankwalk.... his cylinder walls would have been annihilated by now with that much movement

^^^ How long did it take you? Did you have to pull the front of the car off to do it?

Edit: I agree, crank walk is very small movement. Also many other symptoms.

take off the crank pully bolt and get a puller to take the pully off. shouldnt take more then a half hour to do. i wouldnt be driving it around right now, if that outer part of the pully lets go you will be getting a new rad and possibly other stuff.

Glad you got the ATI... I got mine at Summit as well. I also bought the ATI puller / installer kit.
Was the puller/installer kit really needed? Or can it be done without? Did u get the kit also from summit?

it can be done without.

a simple pully puller will take it off. and it can be installed using the stock bolt.

read the instructions it comes with. you can determine whether or not you will need to machine it without measuring... after boiling it, you should be able to tap it onto the snout enough to stay put, and get a couple of threads in with the crank bolt... then just draw it on with the crank bolt... if it is really tough to draw onto it after it was boiled and anti-seized, then pull it off immediately and have it machined. otherwise good to go if you can draw it on without breaking a sweat
