Hi,

I got problems with my car.. It wont start.
I have checked that theres spark, several different batteries, it gets fuel.. But wont fire.
A friend says my starter is a bit slow, never had problems with it before, it has never been any faster but could this be the problem?

Also, could it be that my HKS DLI is worn out, so the car doesnt get all the spark it should?

I would appreciate any suggestions to get it running.
I can also mention that the car starts if I roll-start.. And when the engine is at normal temperatures after running, it starts right up..

Thanks,
Stian

You saying that it starts after rolling makes me believe it is in fact starter going out..

Yes and Yes.

Drain your tank and fill up with gasoline or richen your start up map if you have the ability to do so. I'm assuming you don't have an ethanol-based start up map so you'll need to adjust it accordingly depending on the ethanol content of your fuel.

Yes, if its colder (less than 55*F) you will have a hard time starting it. I had to crank my car over a few times in the morning last week when it was cold to get enough for it to start. On warm sunny days she turns over first key turn.

This is due to the fact that E85 stops vaporizing at approximately 55 degrees Farenheit and it only gets more difficult as the temperature drops further. Fuel is ignited at start-up by these fuel vapors. For comparison, Gasoline (only about 15% present in E85) does not stop vaporizing until -45 degrees Farenheit which is why it does not have issues starting in colder weather.

This. I also have seen some people use timing adjustment tables as well.

Thanks guys.
The weather is warm now, so I dont think it is because of the weather. Its around 25 celcius.
I will have my tuner take a look at the start up on my tune to see if we can do something different.

I also measured the volts on the battery.. It has 12v, but when I turn the starter its down at 10v, and my starter is as low as 9v.. That might be it, the starter doesnt get enough power to get the engine running. I will buy a new battery tomorrow, and overhaul the starter, buy some lines with more capacity and replace my trigger sensor. Hopefully this will get the engine running again.

Will keep this one updated.
Thanks,
Stian

Hi

These data is INCORRECT! We have more or less the same climate as wisconsin, but the winter is usually a bit longer in WI... We have had 75-85 F the last month now in middle of Norway... South Norway is usually warmer... Summer is from april/may - September

I was running E85 last year too, and my car started at 32 F and colder, so this is not it... i believe it`s the starter or a faulty HKS DLI...
