Hey all,
I need some help. I picked up an 88 turbo MT supra a couple months ago and plan on fully restoring it. Yesterday I had to take the dash out because I smelled a wire melting after testing a new head unit. car was running good before I found this issue surprisingly. Head unit ran fine on ACC but when power switched to ON, the blower for the climate control kicked on and I smelled wires melting. I took the head unit out and tested without it in and still had wires melting smell so its not the head unit and all the wires associated with the head unit were good. I however found a wire had melted at some point from one side of the dash to the other along with a cluster of jank wiring on both side The wire was snipped in the middle and electrical taped. also found a lot of fuses near the kick panel so someone had known about the issue before me. Car has an HKS FCon, EVC-1 and a turbo timer for the engine side and at one point had an alpine radar detector and some sort of aftermarket security system I think and all of it was poorly installed. I need help tracking down what the yellow wire with single grey dot is so I can repair and test that whole system. It runs from the left hand kick panel (E3, Blue, pin 2) connector I believe all the way over to the Ecu side. I haven't torn out the climate stuff yet since I work outside and Its pouring down rain so I haven't been able to get back into the car to know if it runs to the engine bay but will update when I find out.

Also can anyone tell me if this wiring below is a factory connector or if its aftermarket? It has the Radar detector box hooked into the pins so I'm lead to believe its aftermarket. It also had the orange wire from the Turbo timer running to it. It was under the dash on the drivers side along with a cluster of wires. I didnt see a bunch of cut up wires that would correspond to that connector like what I found on the other side so I feel that its not factory

Side note, does anyone know the best way to repair wires that were tapped into with these blue connectors? Probably just electrical tape since I don't want to cut the wires to heat shrink them and don't yet have the tools to pull wires out of a connector.

I have been looking through the TEWD and TSRM but haven't come up with anything yet since it doesn't list the pin out for that connector. Any help and recommendations for what to do would be greatly appreciated. Wasn't planning on it this early but I will be moving to an ECU Masters standalone and custom harness when I have the funds due to what Ive seen here and knowing that the engine harness is going to look the same when I start digging into it... Looks like I have my work cut out for me this winter

Update: After doing some more digging, the wiring on the drivers side is an easy fix as Its an aftermarket harness for an Alpine 8000 series alarm system. Also I found that the wire that had melted is associated with the back up light switch on the trans. Makes sense since I found the wire for it disconnected under the car and the light for lamp failure was on. Now on to more wire tracing. Probably not going to fully rewire the dash. Just replace anything that was damaged.

Just an update for anyone who cares. I was able to source 95% of everything I needed to repair all the wiring and was able to rebuild the engine harness. Car is running again after being down for 3 months. Still have some things to fix like the temp and tachometer are no longer working though I have signal to both but everything else is working so yay.
Edit: Its all working now! It turns out that when I was replacing the damaged wiring to the interior fuse panel, I put a wire in the wrong port on connector 1F where power didn't feed ( spot 7 I believe). I just followed the wire with a volt meter till I ran into where it had power and had the electrical diagram handy to diagnose. A "simple" removal of the fuse panel and a quick swap of the wires from the wrong spot to the correct one and boom everything works including all the gauges that didn't work before like oil pressure. Happiest moment of my project so far. Now onto re-upholstery.
