Engine ran well prior to the R & R of the cams
Initial start found the timing belt slipped fixed that (see picture)
Found the distributor was out of time fixed that (see picture)
Traced all plug wires all correct
Checked all fuses

Symptoms:
Engine turns over well
intermittent firing
fuel is present
Tried to turn distributor while cranking little improvement.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Sounds like your timing is just off, keep moving it around until it fires. There is only a small window where it will run.

Never in my life have I seen Intake and Exhaust cam gears labeled "L" and "R". But it appears the "R" is on the left side of the car, and vice versa. Also I think you should explain R and R of the cams was because there are several errors possible here. However, I don't think it matters because the OP has not been on for 3 weeks, which may mean he's given up and taken it to a shop. For future reference, label the cam gears Exhaust and Intake so you don't have a 50/50 error rate on assembly.....
