Hey everybody. I just got the free information packet with a catalog and DVD from Factory Five Racing and I must say I am very impressed with what they offer.

The MKIII Cobra Replica kit only cost $13,000 without the motor, tranny, rear end, and a few other things. Factory Five claims that with a 350 hp motor, the 2,100 lb. MKIII Cobra will do a sub 4 second 0-60 and around a 12 second 1/4 mile.

I love the looks of the Cobras as well. Always have. Sure, you have too put the kit together yourself, but that's part of the fun. Or you can always pay somebody around $4,000 to build it for you.

Anyways, I was just wondering if anybody knew someone who had built one or owns one. Let me know what ya'll think. Later!

I have seen a few of the Factory Five kits. Very well-built and thought out.

I plan on starting a MKIII project after the Supra is finished...

The only bad thing is you will constantly trap 125 because of the aerodynamics theres just too much drag, you will get faster with the coupe version. This is speaking from experiance you haul ass all the way to 125 then you just cant seem to get more mph.

A guy down the street from the parents is building one...He bought the complete kit..including engine tranny.. You will need to know a good body guy unless you are good at it. The seems where they put the body togather need work .. I will say that they make it very easy to follow..the boxes and bags are marked with a code that tells you exactly what and where it goes.

A guy I know owns one of their AC Cobra replicas. It is gorgeous, we are doing a magazine article on it pending publication approval. It should be a go as the car is 804whp with an EFI 351 motor and twin 60-1 turbos. At 667whp (low boost) the car ran a 9.4 @ 155 on 275 street tires.

I love those cars. Light, and leaves a lot of the engine work up to the imagination of the owner.

Do it. I'm building mine next summer. If I didn't need to get my wife a new car I would have bought one this summer.

You may also want to check out the FF5 forums as well, if your looking for a car already put together and running.

I know, absolutely insane. At high boost (804whp) he doesn't think it will be any faster due to lack of traction. Only in Spokane, WA can you run 9's in a convertible with nothing but a helmet on lol. The car can't really be floored in any gears...heck, you can't go more than 1/2 throttle til you hit 3rd gear.

He's had it sideways at 140mph when it lost traction in a 3rd to 4th gear shift. He will no longer 1/4 mile it and has our friend Brian pilot it at the track instead lol.

check out theirs and discuss with guys that have built them - most are at least 25k deep for an average build and i was very interested in a Coupe until I saw how much body work needed to be done. I would be careful with your decision.

LOL, yeah, there is a track or two in IL where you can get away with it. Their "tech check-in" usually amounts to making sure you have a battery tie-down and a coolant overflow can and...umm...that's it.

Did you see the goats? Hahahahaha, SRP's own petting zoo! Fortunately the track was seized by Spokane County earlier this summer since the owner was not paying its shareholders and now it will be going through a series of revamps. Also, not sure if this is fortunately or unfortunately, the same mullet track crew is still getting away with the safety inspection FYRARMS speaks of; battery tie down and coolant overflow check and MAYBE operable seatbelts but I never had shoulder belts in my old 350hp DSM and they didn't care hahaha. That place is so carney! I once saw a van of mexicans pull up to the starting line and one guy actually had them get out...there were about 12 of them in a 7 passenger van  Looked like a freaking carnival with all of them piling out.

Check out FFR's '65 Daytona Coupe, that's the one I want, although it would be at least a year before I could take on another toy. :D

It's around 2300lbs and won't hold a big block, but a nasty 351 in one of those is more than plenty, you can have mid 11 second performance NA with those, not to mention the extra rigidity and aerodynamcis for road racing, already having the Supra, I wouldn't bother with FI on such a light car. There's just something pure about those, unfussy, light and brutal, I love 'em.

Very cool cars. I've ridden in a 427 powered Cobra replica and it was ridiculously quick...and felt like a lot of fun. The doors weighed about 5 pounds each too, which really appealed to me. :bigthumb:

I helped my neighbor build one... it was VERY well doen for a kit. The chassis is a beast.

I would echo Wob's sentiments... look into the amount of bodywork needed for some of the Daytona style kits. They are badass - but can get very expensive to make straight.

My neighbor had a stroker 347 and it was PLENTY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone ever check out the Superformance products? They supposedly have very high build quality?

I'll take mine with the 10.1 liter, 1200HP V8 that revs to 9500 without problems, please. Traction be damned.
That's a widow maker!!! :run:

I like having lots of power, but when it gets to the point that you are actually SLOWER in many instances for lack of traction, it's absurd, not to mention dangerous. Imagine trying to road race that thing. :ugh2: Even goofing off on the street would be crazy, it's only good for the drag strip, and then it would be ugly if you lost control........

I had a cobra...you might want to really do your homework if you're serious. Superformance is in my opinon the best, next to the real ones that is. Awhile back, there was a test done on all the replica manufactures bodies. the did various tests. It was found that Factory five bodies on the rear deck around the trunk...the fiberglass was as thin as an 1/8" thick, when it should be no thinner than 3/8".
