Now that I'm single (the engine, not me) and running the AEM, I no longer need the hose to the IAC which brings up a question. Is a filter necessary on the IAC? I noticed when I had it apart that there is a foam filter inside the IAC so is another filter on the tube needed? I noticed that some have small K&N filters on theirs but is this really necessary or just for looks?

The filter should be used when your IAC is being used. Since your AEM is it setup to run the IAC? I'm not very familiar with the AEM but I thought you could set it up to control it. If so you want to filter the air going into the Plenum so on cars like mine it is used for a purpose.
